Full Job Description

We will run three days a week from 9.30am to 3pm and will be based initially from our lovely space in Maze Hill, St Leonards. At first, there will be two facilitators and one parent-volunteer supporting 12 children aged 4-8. The intention is to gently expand the age range and number of students and facilitators each year and grow with our students., As Lead Facilitator, you will be crucial in helping us realise our vision. Your responsibilities will include:
- Playing a role in setting up the project
- Helping to create an environment and culture that reflects our project's values.
- Designing and implementing daily routines, rhythms, and systems to ensure the setting runs smoothly.
- Fostering open and positive communication with parents.
- Working with facilitators, parents, and students to schedule a rich, non-compulsory curriculum.
- Training parent volunteers to support the project's vision and operations.
- Stewarding the space
- Working with students and staff to create a respectful attitude towards our environment.
- Ensuring that the space is kept clean, tidy, and safe.
- Facilitating the children's learning and growth
- Being a role model for self-motivation, curiosity, and personal growth.
- Providing empathetic friendship and guidance when needed.
- Helping children resolve differences and navigate relationships through compassionate mediation.
- Supporting students in pursuing their interests and passions by providing knowledge, encouragement, and resources.

Assistant Facilitator
As Assistant Facilitator, you'll support the Lead Facilitator and play an important role in nurturing our children's growth and maintaining the space. Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the environment
- Helping create a welcoming, positive space.
- Assisting with daily routines and communication with parents.
- Stewarding the space
- Working with students and staff to care for the environment.
- Helping ensure the space is clean, safe, and ready for learning and play.
- Facilitating children's learning and growth
- Offering kind, empathetic, and observant friendship.
- Supporting children in learning to resolve differences and build relationships.
- Encouraging students to explore their interests with enthusiasm and resources.

Training & Development

Both facilitators will receive training, including facilitator training from East Kent Sudbury, to ensure you feel well-prepared for the role. The Lead Facilitator will also train parent volunteers to support the project's goals., This is a part-time role: 3 days per week, term time only, with typical hours for the Lead Facilitator from 9:30am to 4:30pm, and for the Assistant Facilitator from 9.30am to 3.30pm (exact days to be confirmed).
- Additional time may be required for after-hours staff meetings and community events, with as much advance notice as possible.
- Holiday must be taken outside of school days.
- The role offers a salary of £40,000 pro rata, per annum (Lead Facilitator) or £30,000 pro rata, per annum (Assistant Facilitator), with holiday entitlement and pay calculated accordingly (28 days of holiday per year, including public holidays, on a pro-rata basis).
- Pension contributions will be made in line with statutory requirements.
- National Insurance (NI) contributions and statutory sick pay (SSP) will be provided in accordance with UK employment law.
- This is a permanent, ongoing position, with opportunities for additional summer hours or other community-building activities.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is essential, and the successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check.

- Being an Ofsted Registered childminder on either / both of the Childcare Register and the EYFS Register is a bonus.

Lead Facilitator: £40k pro rata, typical hours 9:30am to 4:30pm
Assistant Facilitator: £30k pro rata, typical hours 10am to 4pm
Start date: Mid January 2025
