We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Data Engineer to join our data team. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading data engineering projects, ensuring the efficient processing and management of data across the organization. This role requires a deep understanding of Azure cloud services, Databricks, and modern data engineering practices.

At the DVLA we provide digital services to millions of UK citizens, the motor industries and emergency services. You will get to lead a team working on a modern data platform, collaborating with engineering product teams delivering services and working closely with reporting teams and data scientists to help understand and optimise our digital services., We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Lead Data Engineer to join our growing team. This role will be instrumental in shaping our data infrastructure, ensuring it supports our strategic objectives. You will leverage cutting-edge technologies, primarily focusing on Microsoft Azure and Databricks, to develop and maintain robust, scalable data solutions.,

  • Leadership and Strategy: Lead the data engineering team, setting standards and best practices. Contribute to the strategic direction of our data infrastructure and analytics capabilities.

  • Data Architecture: Design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines and architectures on Azure and Databricks.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver high-quality data solutions.

  • Innovation: Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends to ensure our data architecture is state-of-the-art.

  • Quality Assurance: Implement and oversee data quality processes to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data.

  • Mentorship: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior data engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

    This role will be based in Swansea, and we will be operating a hybrid working model that allows you to work between home and on-site giving you greater flexibility about where and when you work, subject to business needs and this also allows for ongoing support, development, and collaboration with colleagues.

    If you are successful at this stage, you will be invited to a final stage interview (which will include an assessment) and be conducted by DVLA Hiring Managers.

    Final stage interview/assessments will take place from Wednesday 10th July 2024.

    This interview will be conducted via a video, details of which will be provided, should you be selected for interview.

    Salary: £51,997 - £80,400

    The role is part of the Government Digital and Data profession and utilises an enhanced Capability-Based Pay Framework which provides access to a Digital and Data allowance.

    The base pay is £51,997.
