We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Developer in our Digital and Technology Group (DTG). This is a full-time opportunity, on a permanent basis. Please be aware that these roles can only be worked in the UK and not overseas. We are currently operating a hybrid way of working, with a minimum of 40% of contracted hours working on site to enable the collaboration and contact with partners and stakeholders needed to deliver MHRA business. This may rise to 60% during the year. Attendance on site is driven by business needs so depending on the nature of the role, some roles will need to be on site more regularly.
- The salary for this role is £58,593 - £63,067. A Digital Allowance of up to £10,000 per annum may be available for exceptional candidates based on our assessment of your skills and experience. The Digital and Technology Group (DTG) lies at the heart of the Agency and is responsible for delivering an optimised IT infrastructure and maximising the secure use of data to enable our scientists, inspectors, and the rest of the organisation to deliver world class services which can improve outcomes for patients and the general public. The Technology & Service Operations function is responsible for managing the existing IT infrastructure including both software and hardware, databases, and other technology platforms; leading the support and maintenance of applications; development and testing of new applications and platforms; and cyber and information security for the Agency., The Lead Developer is responsible for supporting the Principal Developer in the design, implementation and support of custom software solutions. The post holder will have significant experience in all stages of the software development lifecycle and a solid track record in prioritizing work, guiding team members and managing stakeholders. The post holder will be hands-on and support in leading the team on the design and development of creating cloud native (Azure), JavaScript based services (Node.js) and front end (React, Next.js) utilising agile methodologies, paired programming, Test Driven Development (TDD) and DevOps. The successful candidate will collaborate with engineers, architects, and service providers to guarantee the successful delivery of projects. They will foster a collaborative team environment, providing technical guidance and mentorship to more junior members and align development efforts with project goals. You will design and develop cloud-native applications and front-end applications using Agile practices. We currently use mainly Node.js, Typescript, Next.js and Azure and take the lead in refining, troubleshooting, and improving current software while ensuring no regression occurs in operational systems. You will promote excellent engineering standards and comply with GDS guidelines whenever feasible., We use the Civil Service Success Profiles to assess our candidates. The successful candidate will have substantial experience with/working knowledge of one or more of the following tools and associated engineering processes: - GitHub - JavaScript, React, Next.js, Node.js, Typescript, Python - Azure or other cloud offerings - Familiarity with testing tools/frameworks such as cypress, Jest, JMeter - Containerisation technologies such as Docker - Agile and multidisciplinary ways of working - Working with QA, architecture, support, product, UCD and delivery teams - Collaborative tools including Jira, Confluence You will be experienced in creating cloud native web applications that can scale, are performant and secure using modern engineering best practices in an agile, pair programming team using DevOps automation. You should have a track record of collaborating with others, including suppliers, when necessary to review specifications and use these agreed specifications to design, code, test and document programs or scripts of medium-to-high complexity, using the right standards and tools. You will be a strong and capable communicator, able to explain technical concepts to a wide range of audiences and you will be able to work on multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously, delivering a pace and prioritising as required., Successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check. Alongside your salary of £58,593, Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency contributes £16,974 towards you being a member of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme.
