The role of our new Lead Digital Midwife is an experienced Midwife with advanced knowledge of digital issues and IT systems within maternity services. This role ensures that clinical practices supported by digital technology meet professional standards. The Lead Digital Midwife is at the forefront of the digital maternity agenda, promoting changes in the profession by utilising digital technology to enhance service delivery, improve service users' experiences, and ensure quality and safety. This role requires a forward-thinking approach to identify and implement digital enablers that support timely service improvements.
The role will report to the Chief Nursing Information Officer and will have Professional Accountability to the Head of Midwifery. The Lead Digital Midwife collaborates closely with multidisciplinary teams to foster effective working relationships both within and outside the maternity service. This role involves significant cross-boundary working, linking IT, system suppliers, and clinical staff to achieve safe and effective practice. A key aspect of this role is ensuring accurate data collection and quality from electronic systems, supporting both local and national data collection initiatives., Support with sound leadership and guidance the Clinical, Operational and Technical teams in the safe and effective delivery of a Maternity EPR System
Influence and collaborate with colleagues in various disciplines, including system suppliers, to advocate for digital solutions that enhance maternity care.
Responsible for promoting digital transformation within maternity services, working to integrate digital processes into clinical practice
Provide digital leadership, support, and training to midwives and multidisciplinary team members
Act as a resource for Midwives and team members who lack digital confidence, offering transformational leadership that inspires and ensures the safe delivery of care using digital solutions.
A critical part of this role involves assessing and supporting the maternity IT systems to ensure it meets the needs of the entire maternity pathway. This includes system redesign, configuration, enhancements, and integration with other health solutions.
The successful candidate will work with the digital department to provide resilient system administration and user support.
The role involves conducting audits and reporting on system utilisation, acting on findings to uphold high standards of clinical practice, Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides hospital services to a growing population of around 700,000 people living across Bedfordshire and the surrounding areas across two busy hospital sites in Bedford and Luton. Both hospital sites offer key services such as A&E, Obstetrics-led Maternity and Paediatrics. Out of hours, shift work and On-call work to support services and system "go lives" is an expectation of the role however the focus of work will be in normal business hours.
