Full Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead General Practitioner to join our Primary Care team at HMP Oakwood. HMP Oakwood is a category C prison in Staffordshire, based close to the M54 for commuters. The site is the largest UK prison supporting 2135 patients aged 21+, the patients group has high complex and long term conditions, 9% having comorbities needs. This role heavily focused on on clinical governance, development and leading the 2 other GP's on site, because of this a maximum of 2 out of the 4 sessions would be patient facing., As a Lead General Practitioner, your responsibilities will vary. You will

  • Provide primary care to patients within GP clinics - clinically assessing, diagnosing and treating patients, similar to that in the community but with the added benefit of being part of a fully integrated Healthcare department

  • Provide clinical oversight of the patients on the Care & Separation Unit (CSU)

  • Support with advance care planning, clinical case reviews, safer prescribing decisions and multidisciplinary meetings

  • Provide a highly specialist resource of knowledge and skills to the healthcare team in the prison

  • Be actively involved in clinical governance and effectiveness of activities, as we strive to give the best possible care to our patients

    MBChB or MBBS Inclusion on the GMC Register and GP Performers List

  • Evidence of engagement with annual appraisal

  • Experience working as a General Practitioner in community general practice

  • RCGP Certificate in Substance Misuse 1 and 2, or prepared to undertake these qualifications

  • Evidence of up to date knowledge and skills

  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative partnerships

  • Ability to line manage clinicians and support with clinical supervision

    This position is part time role working 15 hours per week, you'll receive an annual salary up to £135,000 FTE per annum - depending on experience.
