Full Job Description

As a result of recent organisational changes, we are seeking a Lead Infrastructure Support Engineer.

In this role, you will lead an experienced team supporting and securing our existing cloud infrastructure, platforms, and customer systems. You will have the opportunity to design, implement and take ownership of new solutions, working closely with our PLM and cross-departmental development teams to understand business and technical priorities and deliver highly effective support for our products and services.

You will play a key role in driving the department's operational vision and delivering comprehensive technical solutions to our customers across a diverse range of services. Areas of responsibility and tasks:

  • Integrate Cloud Infrastructure Support and Platform team activities to align workstreams, enhance collaboration, and drive the continued adoption of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) within our DevOps environment.

  • Oversee the technical operation of the infrastructure in all product streams of our live environments, ensuring alignment in delivering and supporting key products and systems.

  • Support the operational vision by driving the implementation of platform technologies and automation in customer environments, leading the delivery and integration of both in-house and third-party solutions.

  • Champion the integration and adoption of security processes and tools across our operational portfolio, ensuring the team effectively manages vulnerabilities, patches and updates systems, completes threat risk assessments (TRAs) and security reviews, and understands and mitigates potential threats.

  • Facilitate and lead discussions on various technical topics with diverse groups, often navigating challenging timelines and resource constraints.

  • Manage hosting costs for operational environments, ensuring cost-saving initiatives are identified, introduced at the design phase and maintained.

  • Collaborate with the Applications Support and MIS team leads to provide technical support to customers, establish and adhere to SLAs, ensure delivery meets KPIs and provide reports as needed.

  • Manage change processes and delivery within operational environments, ensuring adherence to cross-departmental procedures and participating in audits for compliance.

  • Guide and mentor team members to enhance their technical expertise and develop their business acumen

  • Define new processes and develop technical documentation, ensuring the team creates, maintains, streamlines, communicates, executes, and adheres to these processes effectively.

  • Drive personal development with a focus on technology and applications.

    Demonstrable expert-level experience managing cloud infrastructure and networks

  • Broad and deep knowledge of key AWS services such as VPC, EC2, ECS, EKS, CloudFormation, CloudWatch etc

  • Ability to understand and master complex technical solutions in both legacy/evolved and native Cloud environments.

  • Excellent communication skills and proven ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

  • Exposure to and some experience with DevOps processes, CI/CD pipelines, IaaS, PaaS and associated tools (e.g. GitLab, CDK, Terraform)

  • Knowledge and experience with databasing and queuing technologies, primarily MySQL/Postgres and Kafka/RabbitMQ/ActiveMQ

  • Exemplary approach to problem-solving through deep, specific technical knowledge of our solutions and our customer deployments

  • Ability to comfortably context switch between all technical streams of operational products and systems to ensure personal and team deadlines are achieved

  • Extensive knowledge of Linux and Windows Server operating systems

  • Ability to build relationships with colleagues & customers.

  • Ability to own and drive issues and ideas, assess new technologies, learn quickly, develop, and implement solutions.

  • Able to work collaboratively with the team and various other teams across the organisation as well as clients/customers.


  • Desirable:
  • Qualification(s) or relevant in-depth experience in cloud services (specifically AWS)

  • Working knowledge of scripting and ability to develop scripts to automate and deliver solutions.

  • Other areas of knowledge/experience in the cloud such as Queuing (ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ, Kafka), S3, IAM and database technologies (MySQL, SQL Server, DynamoDB etc.)

  • Knowledge of Intelligent Traffic Control Systems

  • Experience with Kubernetes and associated tools

  • Familiarity with VPN configurations and technologies.

  • Understanding of the Agile development lifecycle
