Full Job Description

Alongside the Assistant Design Director, you will help to evangelise the game vision, ensuring it is clearly communicated to your team and carried through into the game's level design and implementation.

  • You will lead a team of level designers to deliver high quality levels which support the creative pillars of the game.
  • You will ensure your level design team understand the vision and design of the game, holding regular reviews and providing feedback so their work meets the required quality bar. You will also support feedback from other disciplines, the Design Director, and User Research.
  • You will closely collaborate with other disciplines, understanding their role and building a positive relationship to ensure that they are involved in the design process.
  • Establish level design best practice, and improve the level design workflow for your team
  • You will ensure team members follow agreed development practices as well as ensuring that their work maintains stability and quality throughout development
  • You will work with the production teams to verify your teams task estimations, and the team are delivering their work to deadlines at quality.
  • You will oversee, mentor & coach the designers and take an active role in their career development, including annual appraisals and goal setting.
  • You will encourage a culture of professionalism, collaboration, and respect.
  • You will identify key hires for your team and take an active role in the recruitment process.

    Significant progressively complex experience within their discipline, in level design on AAA titles including experience of at least one leadership role and at least one title shipped in this position.
  • A broad knowledge of all aspects of game and level design with a strong understanding of layout, architectural composition, combat and encounter design, balancing, flow, difficulty, progression & usability. You should be able to describe approaches that create engaging and fun levels.
  • A passion for creating fun and accessible games for children and families.
  • Experience of games development and shipped at least one action or action/adventure title on console or PC title.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience of UE4/ UE5 an advantage
  • Hybrid Working - This role is advertised as a Hybrid work model, that combines remote and in-office work, following our current company policy and to be agreed with your Line Manager.
