Full Job Description

The neonatal unit at the Homerton hospital is one of the largest tertiary medical units in the country with 46 cots. It is part of the London Neonatal Operational Delivery Network (ODN) and is one of two Level 3 units in North East London. There are >850 admissions and 8000 ITU/HDU care days per year. Neonatal services at the Homerton sit within the Surgery, Women and Neonatal Services (SWNS) division.

The Lead Nurse will be expected to provide senior leadership, operationally and clinically, along with oversight of the governance processes. This includes inpatient services, a neonatal Community service and a dedicated ROP screening and treatment service. There are several specialist roles including research nurses, a PDN team, and a lead for Governance.

The post holder will be responsible for leading on defined projects across the neonatal service and reporting progress to the Director of Midwifery and Lead for Neonatal Services.

The post holder will be required to work collaboratively within the large international neonatal nursing team to implement a strategy for nursing that supports the priorities of the Division, Trust and commissioning bodies.

The post holder is key to ensuring the efficient and effective use of resources and the development and maintenance of the highest standards of care and service delivery., The Lead Nurse will:

o Provide the managerial leadership .o Hold operational and strategic responsibilities for the development of the neonatal service in conjunction with the lead clinician, the divisional management team and the London Neonatal Operational Delivery Networko Lead on the development of robust service specifications and performance standards for the service to demonstrate quality, safety and productivity in line with Care Quality Commission standards and commissioning requirements.o Work closely with colleagues in other organisations in order that services are provided seamlessly across the health and social care boundaries.o Be responsible for effective delivery of service outcomes and agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) in collaboration with key stakeholders.o Be responsible for the development of contractual arrangements with key partners within the service.o Be responsible for ensuring staff resources are maximised by appropriate skill mix. o Manage capacity and activity within the
service ensuring that staffing and cot capacity meets the needs of clinical activity.o To undertake regular clinical duties, up to 10% of the WTE and act as a role model.o To represent HUHFT at local pan London network forums, national forums and BAPM meetings.o Manage the neonatal outreach service, ensuring the service works collaboratively with Health visiting, Children's Community Nursing and other post discharge services.
