An exciting opportunity has arisen for the position of Lead Nurse for Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Pathway. The post is to provide oversight of the 4 PICU wards and pathway, ensuring PICU flow in and out, to support and guide clinical development of PICU staff. The postholder will provide specialist clinical input Trust-wide to acute wards in relation to complex patients including support with the appropriate use of seclusion and less restrictive alternatives. Provide outreach and offer support to deteriorating patients in ED or PoS where seclusion or restraints might be considered. The Postholder will be expected to work across the directorates to set standards and implement best practice in line with both national and international evidence. Provide expert advice on environmental changes/upgrades to ensure facilities for PICUs, seclusion, extra care and de-escalation are standardised Trust wide and in line with best practice. A strong commitment to collaborative working across the multi-professional team, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to use these to influence with a range of stakeholders within and external to the organisation are essential requirements for the role. The post holder will identify and lead on areas for quality improvement across PICU admissions using the appropriate methodology and measurement to make processes more efficient, improve patient safety, clinical outcomes, ensure budgets are maintained and improve staff satisfaction at work. The post holder will contribute to the shaping of the strategic direction for the service and ensure its implementation within defined timescales. The post holder will be highly visible spending considerable time in the clinical service area, having a presence at multi-disciplinary meetings and other relevant key meetings. The post holder will assist the Heads of Nursing and Quality in seclusion reviews and will work within agreed objectives, targets, quality standards, controls and constraints.
