Full Job Description

Key aspects of the role include oversight of the running of the clinical trials department in the pharmacy, including ensuring SOPs are reviewed regularly and up to date, staff are appropriately trained, ensuring the storage and supply of investigational drugs is maintained according to UK law, and ensuring appropriate governance and risk procedures are applied to all investigational drugs used in clinical trials.

A key role as a senior member of staff will be to attend departmental business meetings and be active as a research advocate to the department. You will also line manage a small number of pharmacy technicians. We are dedicated to the development of line managers, providing access to leadership development programmes to enhance management and leadership skills.

Royal Papworth Hospital are looking to recruit an experienced pharmacist specialising in clinical trials services to join our team. The pharmacy department sits at the heart of our state-of-the-art, digitally enabled specialist cardio-respiratory hospital.

The successful candidate will have a hospital background, ideally with experience in clinical trials. The role will involve working with the R&D department and the various clinical research teams to ensure the smooth running of the trials service, including the setup of studies of investigational drugs sponsored by the trust. Currently a new research facility is being built next door to our new hospital in collaboration with the University of Cambridge and so this is an exciting time to come and work within the research service of our hospital as we develop and expand our role as a sponsor of clinical trials. The Trust currently supports over 200 studies with approximately 20-25 involving investigational drugs. The trust also operates a clinical trials unit (CTU) and so the successful applicant would be working to support any studies managed by the CTU that involved investigational medicines., Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is the UK's leading heart and lung hospital, delivering care to more than 50,000 patients a year in its new state-of-the-art hospital in Cambridge. We perform the most heart and/or lung transplants in the UK and carried out the UK's first successful heart transplant in 1979. It also offers emergency heart attack treatment, sleep centre care and is one of just five centres nationally for those in severe respiratory failure.

Based on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus the largest centre of medical research and health science in Europe the Trust is at the heart of treatments of the future. Royal Papworth became the first hospital trust in the country to be rated outstanding in all five areas assessed by the Care Quality Commission - a rating it still holds today. The Trust holds its values of compassion, excellence & collaboration at its core, and all colleagues joining the team are expected to uphold these in their day-to-day roles & interactions.
