Full Job Description

At LGT we are currently seeking a highly motivated, resourceful pharmacist to join our energetic and well-motivated team to lead on the provision of a clinical pharmacy service to Specialist Medicine (namely Dermatology and Neurology) at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).

Following the repatriation of patients with multiple sclerosis from Kings College Hospital, we have an opportunity to manage our patients and give access to novel therapies at QEH, with the successful candidate working closely alongside Neurology consultants and specialist nurses.

In addition, there will be the exciting opportunity to be involved in the upcoming implementation of a Pharmacy Led Homecare Hub, with the aim of centralising the prescribing of homecare medicines for dermatology, neurology, rheumatology and gastroenterology at LGT.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the pharmacy service offered to specialist medicine at the QEH site, including representing the Trust at regional integrated medicines optimisation committee meetings, supporting the roll out of biosimilar switching programmes, participating in MDTs, engaging with commissioners and ensuring clinically effective and cost efficient use of drugs.

The ability to provide support and provide education to the wider clinical pharmacy team and other healthcare professionals is fundamental to this post. The post-holder is also expected to have a ward based commitment working within a small team (cluster) of pharmacists.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to lead on the pharmacy service provided to dermatology and neurology, help to mentor a team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, implement policies and procedures to ensure safe and effective medication management, provide education and training to staff and patients on safe and effective medication use and to participate in research and quality improvement initiatives to improve patient outcomes.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated team player with excellent problem-solving & time management skills. They will be responsible for supporting the delivery and development of a patient focused clinical pharmacy service Trust wide; and assisting in the promotion of the cost effective use of medicines, as well as identifying and delivering drug cost savings and achievement of any national CQUIN or iURP programmes as necessary., 1. Applicants must be currently registered with the GPhC as a pharmacist and completed the clinical pharmacist diploma. An independent prescribing qualification is desirable but not essential. Successful candidates will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be able to engage with key stakeholders throughout the Trust. The post-holder must be able to represent the Trust at relevant offsite network or regional meetings as required.
