Wood is recruiting for a Lead Subsea Engineer to join the team on a staff or contract basis focusing on subsea projects within our Technical Consulting Division. This role will be based in our Staines office with some hybrid working available., The Subsea System Engineer is a senior-level role responsible for providing technical leadership and expertise in subsea system engineering within the oil and gas industry. This position involves overseeing the design, installation, and maintenance of subsea systems and equipment, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and managing a team of subsea engineers. Typical Responsibilities Technical Leadership:
- Provide technical expertise and guidance in subsea system engineering activities; we are specially looking for engineers with experience of front-end activities
- Lead and participate in the development of engineering solutions for subsea projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards
- Stay updated with the latest technological advancements and industry trends in subsea engineering and apply them to enhance project efficiency and safety Project Management:
- Lead the planning, scheduling, and execution of subsea engineering projects, ensuring they are completed within budget and on schedule
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including geoscientists, drilling engineers, and project managers, to develop integrated project plans and strategies
- Monitor project progress, identify potential risks and challenges, and implement appropriate mitigation measures to ensure project success Subsea System Design:
- Develop and review subsea engineering designs, specifications, and procedures, including subsea hardware, flowlines, umbilicals, and risers
- Collaborate with contractors, vendors, and suppliers to evaluate and select appropriate subsea equipment and materials
- Review engineering deliverables to ensure technical alignment across multiple contractors (BoD's, PFD'S, P&IDS, etc) Team Management:
- Lead and manage a team of subsea engineers, providing technical guidance and performance feedback
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, promoting knowledge sharing and continuous learning among team members HSE Compliance:
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations throughout subsea engineering activities
- Conduct risk assessments and implement appropriate measures to mitigate potential hazards and minimise operational risks

Expected: - Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, preferably in petroleum, mechanical, or subsea engineering
- Extensive experience in subsea system engineering within the oil and gas industry, including a proven track record in leading subsea projects
- Strong knowledge of subsea engineering principles, subsea systems, and relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., API, ISO)
- Proficiency in using subsea engineering software tools, such as subsea design and analysis software
- Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, prioritise tasks, and deliver results within deadlines and budget constraints
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, stakeholders, and contractors
- Strong problem-solving abilities, with a focus on finding innovative and practical solutions to complex subsea engineering challenges
- Sound understanding of HSE regulations and a commitment to promoting a safe working environment Desirable:
- Chartered engineer status preferred
