Full Job Description

We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Learning Mentors to join our Alternative Provision in Taunton. As a Learning Mentor, you will have a crucial role in supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of secondary students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. Working in a nurturing and inclusive environment, you will be instrumental in helping students overcome barriers to learning, building their self-esteem, and fostering a positive learning experience.
Responsibilities of a Learning Mentor:
+ Individualized Support: Provide one-on-one assistance to students with SEMH needs, understand their specific learning requirements, and implement personalized strategies to support their progress.
+ Classroom Collaboration: Collaborate with teachers to create and deliver engaging lessons, ensuring that individual learning needs are met, and facilitating a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere.
+ Social Skills Development: Foster positive relationships among students, encouraging social interactions and emotional regulation while promoting a sense of belonging within the school community.
+ Behavioural Management: Implement behaviour management techniques to support students in maintaining positive behaviour, using de-escalation strategies when necessary.
+ Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with students, teachers, parents, and other support staff to ensure a collaborative and cohesive learning environment.
+ Safety and Welfare: Prioritize student welfare and safety, adhering to safeguarding policies and procedures at all times., + anzuk are able to offer free Team Teach (De-escalation) Training to anyone wishing to work in the Alternative Provision, (you may be required to make travel arrangements to the training location)

+ Experience: Previous experience working with secondary students in an educational or youth-focused setting is preferred. Experience working in an alternative provision or with SEMH students is highly desirable.
+ Empathy and Patience: Demonstrated ability to show empathy, patience, and understanding towards students facing emotional and behavioural challenges.
+ Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with students, teachers, and parents.
+ Flexibility: Adaptability and a willingness to work in a dynamic and ever-changing educational environment.
Working Conditions:
+ Hours: The position is typically full-time during regular school hours. Some additional hours for planning, meetings, or extracurricular activities may be required for Longer term roles.
