Full Job Description

State-of-the-art & creative FE College in the London Borough of Bexley is seeking a dedicated and skilled Learning Support Assistant (LSA). This is a Monday to Friday 9 am-5pm position to start after the half term break. The successful Learning Support Assistant (LSA) will provide essential support to students with a range of special educational needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) issues, behavioural difficulties, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This role involves working 1:1 and with small groups within the classroom setting. Class sizes are small, typically 6-7 per class where you will be supporting on a 1:1 basis or within small groups.   • Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Support classroom activities and help to create an inclusive learning environment.
  • Monitor and record student progress and provide feedback to teachers and SENCOs.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and other educational staff to ensure students' needs are met.
  • Help manage classroom behaviour and support students in developing positive behavioural strategies.
  • Provide emotional and social support to students, fostering a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Assist with the preparation of learning materials and resources.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings related to student progress and support strategies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • SEN2

  • Experience in supporting students with ASD, SEMH, behavioural difficulties, and ADHD in an educational setting.
  • Experience working as either an LSA OR SEN TA/ Behaviour Support / Learning Mentor or Child residential Worker
  • You have an enhanced child & adult DBS on the update service or able to put a new one in process ASAP.
  • You live in easy commutable distance to the London Borough of Bexley.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting the educational development of students with special needs.
  • Understanding of relevant safeguarding policies and practices.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or special needs support (desirable).
  • Compassionate and patient with a positive attitude towards working with students with special educational needs.
  • Adaptable and flexible in approach to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Proactive and resourceful, with the ability to use initiative to support students effectively.
  • Provide 1:1 support and small group assistance to students with ASD, SEMH, behavioural difficulties, and ADHD.
