Full Job Description

The Learning Support Assistant will be responsible for supporting the work of the SEND team in the management of provision for pupils identified as having Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The Learning Support Assistant will work across year groups supporting students both in and out of lessons. They will also liaise closely with external agencies as required. The post will form part of the school's SEND intervention team. The role will include: Support for Students

  • To establish productive working relationships with students with identified SEND needs both in and out of the classroom, acting as a role model and setting high expectations
  • To work with a range of students as directed but give priority to those identified as having the greatest need, especially those experiencing multiple disadvantages.
  • To identify and remove barriers to learning whilst promoting independence
  • To help raise students' self-esteem, expectations, achievements and standards
  • To provide support for individuals and groups of students and identify barriers to learning and implement interventions to reduce these by setting achievable targets and goals for students.
  • To plan and develop appropriate programmes for vulnerable students targeting specific areas of need.
  • To provide support for new students admitted to school to promote effective transition.
  • To work independently and on own initiative to make decisions involving students and to work with other members of staff in the best interests of students

  • To assist the SENCO in implementing the provision for SEND within school
  • To establish productive working relationships with staff, ensuring that staff are kept informed of pupil's SEN. To advise on areas to develop and support and to assist the class teacher in delivering the curriculum through adaptive teaching for individual students
  • To provide all those with involvement in Special Needs and Learning Support the support, challenge, information and development necessary to sustain motivation and secure improvement in learning
  • To provide the SENDCo with reports relating to academic progress, attendance and punctuality, behaviour and attitude to work of specific students where required
  • Support for the School
  • Liaise with parents and external agencies to amend and update MyPlans/Pupil Passports within the review meeting cycle
  • To ensure that accurate and detailed records are kept of meetings and discussions with parents and outside agencies.
  • To communicate, collate, and maintain records regarding circumstances, abilities and needs of individual students.
  • To actively seek knowledge and information about the range of activities, course opportunities, organisations and individuals that could be drawn upon or signposted as additional resources to work with young people.
  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
