Full Job Description

The Department of Science and Engineering at Solent University is seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Senior Lecturer to teach and develop modules in Mechanical, Electronic, and Renewable Energy Engineering. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining and elevating our teaching quality., 1. Delivering high-quality education across various engineering disciplines, including modules such as Engineering Principles, Automation & Control, Applied Mathematics, and Quality & Product Development.
2. Contributing to the development and delivery of new MEng (Level 7) modules, including Advanced Automation & Control, Mechatronics, and Autonomous Vehicles.
3. Supervising individual and group projects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
4. Providing pastoral care as a personal tutor and contributing to curriculum development across mechanical, electronic, and renewable energy engineering programmes.
5. Actively participating in research, innovation, and knowledge exchange activities to ensure teaching is research-informed and promotes student employability.
6. Participation in student recruitment and outreach activities.

  • A Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Control Systems, or a closely related field, or PhD being desirable.

  • Demonstrated expertise in automation and control systems, with a strong background in both theory and practical applications.

  • Experience in quality management, product development processes, and familiarity with autonomous vehicle technologies.

  • A proven track record of successful project supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

  • Strong programming skills and familiarity with industry-standard software tools for engineering design and simulation.

  • Associate fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA), with a higher education teaching qualification or fellowship (FHEA) being desirable.

  • A commitment to innovative teaching methods and student-centred learning..


  • Industrial experience in automation, control systems, or related engineering fields would be advantageous, as would expertise in areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, or Internet of Things (IoT) as applied to engineering systems.
