Full Job Description

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Fire Studies to support the School of Engineering and Computing in delivering its commitments to teaching, research and income generation within our fire provision. The post will support the future operation and enhancement of the undergraduate and postgraduate fire programmes and contribute to the teaching of our fire related programmes - including supervision of level 6 and 7 projects and postgraduate research students.

The successful applicant must have industrial experience in fire engineering and have an understanding of fire protection strategies, fire safety design and fire dynamics. Furthermore, they should have the ability to develop research activities within the Fire provision. Applicants must have a BEng / BSc and/or MSc in a Fire area or similar subject. Appropriate subject specialism(s) include (but not limited to): Fire Safety; Fire Leadership Management as well as a PhD completed or nearing completion in appropriate subject. Having a teaching qualification is desirable but not essential as support towards achieving this would be given. Teaching experience in Higher Education to first-degree level is also desirable.

Utilising excellent communication skills, the successful applicants will have an ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and to be able to develop links and opportunities with industrial partners. The School of Engineering & Computing has further been successful in the setting up and running engineering courses overseas, requiring the successful applicant to have the ability and willingness to work overseas for short periods., Disability Confident
