Full Job Description

Newcastle College is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and qualified professional to take on the role of Lecturer in Construction Skills within Foundation Learning.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering and assessing high-quality Construction Skills programmes within Foundation Learning, covering a range of further education levels. This will include providing engaging, practical instruction in areas such as carpentry and joinery, bricklaying, painting and decorating, and introductory construction techniques, all tailored to meet the needs of Foundation Learning students.

The role also includes programme administrative responsibilities to ensure effective course management. A key focus will be supporting learners in developing employability skills relevant to the construction industry, promoting independence, and preparing them for progression into further education, apprenticeships, or employment., NCG seeks to promote and maintain an equal, diverse, inclusive and supportive environment for work and study that assists all members of our communities to reach their full potential. The ideal candidate will have a strong background as a personal tutor with proven experience in developing learners' technical and employability skills in construction. They will hold an honours degree (Level 6) or an industry-recognised qualification in construction or a related field, alongside a post-16 teaching qualification or a commitment to achieving this within an agreed timeframe. Level 2 English and maths qualifications are essential, or the candidate must be willing to attain them. A proven track record of delivering and assessing construction or vocational training programmes, with an emphasis on progression and learner success, is also required.

Experience in programme leadership within further education, higher education, or apprenticeships is desirable, as is familiarity with current industry practices and health and safety standards. Candidates should also have proven success in designing and implementing teaching strategies that support Foundation Learning students, including those with additional needs or barriers to learning. Strong organisational skills, the ability to self-manage workload, and excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, along with proficiency in IT, including the use of virtual learning environments. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends to meet curriculum demands is also required.

It is desirable that the candidate has experience of effective programme leadership in FE, HE and / or Apprenticeships and has a proven track record of successful teaching and assessment practice.

An ability to self-manage workload, meet deadlines alongside strong oral and written communication skills and good IT skills are also essential. The hours of work will be flexible and may include evening and weekends according to demand.
