The School of Performing and Digital Arts at Royal Holloway University of London is recruiting a dynamic Lecturer (Teaching Focused) in Media and Music, based between the Departments of Media Arts and Music at its Egham campus. The departments provides a full range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes to a student body that is over 40% Black and Global Majority.
The successful candidate will contribute towards the teaching of modules connected to the history of media and music in the departments of Media Arts and Music. In Media Arts, the postholder will convene the module MA3044 Music Video and contribute towards the teaching of core first year modules such as MA1051 Film Television and Digital Histories and/or MA1052 Critical Theory and Textual Practice, and supervise undergraduate dissertations. In the Music department the role holder will contribute towards the teaching of MU2004 Music Media and Technology and MU1117 Contemporary Debates in Music.
The role holder will contribute to the intellectual life of the department and engage with interdisciplinary initiatives with other departments within and beyond the School of Performing & Digital Arts to support innovative research and teaching. They will show a strong commitment to decolonising the curriculum, pioneering approaches to inclusive education and research, promoting gender equality, and LGBTQIA awareness, visibility, and empowerment.
The job holder will report to the Heads of Department of Media Arts and Music, undertaking appropriate leadership and administrative duties. The successful candidate will have excellent communication, organisational, team-working and interpersonal skills, with proven abilities to engage with students, colleagues and research communities from a wide range of backgrounds.
