Full Job Description

The School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science (SPECS) - Department of Engineering is seeking to appoint 2 individuals at the position of Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering to support the Civil Engineering & Built Environment portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The applicants must have specific knowledge and experience in one or more of the following specialist areas:

o Geotechnical design
o Civil engineering materials (other than concrete and steel)
o Hydroinformatics
o Sustainability and life cycle modelling (in relation to construction sector)
o Numerical modelling of microstructural processes in construction materials
o Structural health monitoring
o Structural mechanics
o Sustainable development

Main duties and responsibilities
The successful candidates will undertake teaching and assessment in engineering and technology modules, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Duties also involve support learning through design and development of course materials including online content and undertaking necessary tutorial, laboratory, and administrative activities.
The appointed individuals will be expected to contribute actively to SPECS' research and enterprise strategic plan. Supervising postgraduate research projects and applying for external funding to support research and commercial activities will be elements of the main duties and responsibilities.
For the role of Senior Lecturer, it is expected that the successful candidate(s) will undertake an administrative role in the school assisting with programme management, or other similar duties, provide leadership in an aspect of research or commercial activities and undertake other duties within the framework of the post as delegated by the Head of Department or Head of Subject Group.

The successful candidates must have experience within the domain of Civil Engineering either within Higher Education or in the construction sector. In addition to this, proven experience of teaching or tutoring at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level will be required. The successful candidates will have demonstrable proficiency in English Language, with excellent oral and written communication skills. We will also expect willingness to develop module and programme level material whilst also demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement and to undertake professional qualifications where appropriate.
For the role of Senior Lecturer, substantial experience of working in the domain of Civil Engineering will be required. In addition to a strong track record of research publications in Q1 journals and/or industrial experience and evidence of securing external funding.

Qualifications required
You must hold a degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or a related subject area.

The role of Senior Lecturer will require a Master's degree and a relevant doctoral degree.
