Full Job Description

The introduction and strengthening of the role of Legacy Mentors is one of NHS England Chief Nursing Officer's High Impact Retention Changes to support those in late career to extend their career whilst supporting those in their early career to retain them., We are seeking to recruit a band 6 registered neonatal nurse, for a two year fixed term/secondment, to introduce the role of the legacy mentor. The role will support the journey of new registrants in the neonatal unit at CUH with a focus on experience and knowledge sharing. The legacy mentor role will support students and preceptees with training needs and create a link with practice development.

The post holder will be an experienced neonatal nurse able to coach and provide pastoral support to newly qualified nurses in a level 3 NICU, demonstrating empathy and patience, be passionate about the profession, supporting the nurses in the learning environment.

This role will be key in supporting colleagues to stay and stay well. The legacy mentor will need to build relationships within the team and demonstrate collaborative working., The Legacy Mentor role is an experienced health care professional who will be helping newly qualified nurses, midwives, AHPs and those in other clinical roles by imparting your knowledge, skills and experience through coaching and supporting them in the early stages of their career.

The post holder will spend a 'legacy' period, supervising, supporting and handing over their career insights to other health and social care professionals following significant experiences in health and social care.

The post holder will need to demonstrate empathy and patience, be passionate about the profession and be able to provide pastoral support to others. The role provides an opportunity to transfer skills and expertise to others.

This role will be key in supporting colleagues to stay and stay well. Legacy Mentors will need to be confident in building relationships and collaborating with others. They will be providing coaching and mentoring and will be given any necessary training to develop this skill.

The Legacy Mentor will work within the neonatal unit within children's services in a range of specialisms or environments using a coaching model.
