Full Job Description

Are you an experienced qualified solicitor looking to join an established in-house team within a regulatory setting? We are looking for qualified solicitors with 4+ years PQE and relevant regulatory experience to join us. You will be a trusted source of expertise and advice for colleagues across the organisation on a range of fitness to practise issues. You'll play a key role in ensuring we adhere to relevant law and regulations and will have conduct of your own varied caseload of fitness to practise cases. Whilst we are looking for candidates with previous regulatory experience, during your first six months with us we offer an extensive induction and ongoing learning programme to help you settle in. Once you're up to speed, you can expect to have opportunity to:

  • Independently manage your own fitness to practise cases, including defining the scope and direction of each investigation and leading each case team, and ultimately preparing them for tribunal/panel hearings
  • Manage interactions with defence solicitors and other third parties such as the police
  • Instruct and work with panel experts and counsel
  • Take witness statements from professional, lay and vulnerable witnesses, and provide witness care
  • Draft formal allegations and providing legal advice on a wide range of issues
  • Conduct litigation, including defending applications for judicial review and appeals to the High Court.

You'll need to demonstrate excellent leadership, communication and influencing skills. You'd also bring a professional, highly organised approach to all you do, able to effectively prioritise and delegate a demanding workload. We're looking for you to have reliable legal judgement and analysis skills, meticulous attention to detail and proven legal drafting skills.
  • You can find more detail on the tasks you will undertake, and the essential skills required for the role, in the job description. We work with doctors, patients, and other stakeholders to support good, safe patient care across the UK. We set the standards doctors and those who train them need to meet and help them achieve them. If there are concerns these standards may not be met or that public confidence in doctors may be at risk, we can investigate, and take action if needed.

You'll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people with several excellent benefits including:
  • 30 days holiday with the option to buy and sell more
  • A generous employer pension contribution of 15%
  • Access to a range of learning and development opportunities designed to support your ongoing progression
  • Hybrid and flexible working
  • Attractive salary that's reviewed annually
  • Private medical insurance
  • Bike lockers and shower facilities
