Full Job Description

We are currently looking for a Legal Counsel to join our highly regarded Group Legal Team on a permanent basis in London. This role will complement a team of in-house lawyers who provide strategic legal advice, guidance, and support across Royal London's Asset Management business. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a growing team where you will undertake a range of legal activities, using your knowledge to support the Asset Management division whilst developing key relationships with colleagues across the wider Royal London Group. In this role, you will benefit from working alongside experienced legal professionals who champion development and continuous learning. About the role

  • Provide proactive strategic legal advice and support to various internal stakeholders on a range of asset management activity.
  • Draft, review, negotiate and conclude a varied range of documentation required to support RLAM and its operations, including investment management agreements, distribution agreements, investment fund documentation and material outsourcing agreements.
  • Advise on the interpretation of key pieces of existing and upcoming laws and regulations which have/may have an impact upon RLAM (including MiFID II, UCITS V, AIFMD).
  • Act as the Legal Lead on various projects, product development and fund launches.
  • Work as part of the greater Group Legal team on cross-organisation projects, strategic projects and key regulatory initiatives, whilst providing support to junior members of the team where necessary.
  • Collaborate with external legal counsel, as necessary, and in a cost-effective manner. Taking accountability for obtaining advice, challenge where appropriate and interpret and communicate external legal advice in a commercial and strategic manner for the Royal London Group.
  • Undertake business partnering as delegated by the divisional counsel for specific areas of the asset management division.

    A qualified Solicitor from a Common Law jurisdiction who holds a current practising certificate.
  • Proven experience working in the Asset Management/Financial Services sector whether within a leading law firm or within an in-house legal team.
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of the various laws, rules and regulations relevant to these practice areas.
  • Solid awareness of the principles of corporate governance, FCA/PRA regulations and impact on the RL Group.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and trust quickly and be able to influence colleagues at all levels.
  • An ability to draft clear and well-structured legal advice and legal documentation.
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders and a proven track record working in a fast-moving environment.
