Job Title: Legal Counsel Home Care & Nutrition Location: Kingston Work-Level: WL2A JOB PURPOSE The Unilever Home Care and Nutrition Legal Teams are looking for a Legal Counsel to support our Home Care and Nutrition Business Unit in UK and Ireland. The role would involve supporting the senior lead lawyers who advise the Home Care and Nutrition business units in the UKI region. This will include advising the business on a broad range of legal matters relating to the development, marketing and sale of Unilever Home Care and Nutrition products and brands, identifying the legal risks and helping our business to navigate those risks. The role reports into the HC General Counsel Europe. Unilever's UK and Ireland Legal Team is based in Kingston-upon-Thames in the UK. The Legal Team plays an integral part in the business' risk control processes for commercial and marketing activities and works closely with all business functions. We provide legally compliant, creative solutions which deliver competitive advantage, considering cost, risk and other relevant factors. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Advertising Claims and Promotion: Review the advertising claims and promotion activities of our Homecare and Nutrition Business Units under the guidance of other Unilever lawyers. Provide legal risk assessment on packs and communication assets, and ensure product compliance;
- Contract Review and Negotiation: Draft and review contracts; maintain precedent bank; balance and minimize risks together with the relevant business partner to achieve an optimal legal and commercial outcome;
- Disputes: Provide solution to possible disputes and assist in managing litigation and challenges;
- Training: Provide training to business partners on marketing law and Unilever marketing policies.
- Other related work assigned by the HomeCare and Nutrition Business Unit from time to time, which may include deputising for more senior team members from time to time at leadership team and cross functional meetings;
- Assist with special projects from time to time. ALL ABOUT YOU The ideal candidate would have experience of the following areas:
- Marketing law, including product claims support);
- Contracts, for example, service agreements, consultancy agreements, confidentiality agreements, sponsorship agreements, talent agreements, brand building agency agreements, and joint business plan agreements with customers;
- Knowledge and experience of IP Law and Competition law are desirable but not a requirement. SKILLS/EXPERIENCE: As a guide, we consider that a minimum of 2 years' experience working as a Solicitor (qualified in the UK, Ireland or other common-law based jurisdictions) and advising in relation to marketing and commercial legal issues would be appropriate but we are willing to consider any relevant experience. Experience working in FMCG industry, retail or trade is ideal but not a necessity. Key skills include:
- Marketing law;
- Contract law
- Ability to analyse problems and propose commercial solutions;
- Excellent communication, drafting and organisation skills;
- Team player;
- Ability to work under time pressures to meet short deadlines;
- Proactivity, flexibility and adaptability;
- Ability to identify and communicate legal risks to the business, and to assist the business to manage such risks efficiently; and
- Ability to provide creative solutions to legal issues which deliver competitive advantage to the business, taking into account cost, risk and other consequences.
