Full Job Description

As part of the Property Legal team you will be assisting the Head of Legal (Property) and the other members of the Property Legal team with a wide range of property and development matters across the Market Unit. The business activities are broad in terms of both service/product offerings and geography. The property portfolio includes offices, dental practices, care homes, retirement villages, clinics and hospitals. You'll help us make health happen through: Acquisitions

  • Providing assistance in relation to all aspects of property acquisitions. This will involve providing input on legal and commercial issues arising from such acquisitions and assisting in the negotiation of acquisition agreements from pre-offer stage through to completion and then in respect of post completion matters including strategy for the procurement of the construction process and construction documentation.
  • Directing external lawyers in relation to transactions and coordinating responses on legal issues from the teams involved within the business will also be of significant importance.
  • Disposals
  • Providing assistance in relation to the process of disposing of assets, where appropriate working with a high degree of autonomy and taking primary responsibility and managing the legal aspects of transactions.
  • Transactions may be land disposals or the disposal of assets on a going concern basis and will relate to both freehold and leasehold properties.
  • Construction Contracting
  • Providing assistance in the management of the construction contracting process for a range of construction projects. This involves inputting into and reviewing construction contracts in order to ensure that our standard amendments are included in the documentation and then preparing the documentation for signature.
  • Periodically, we also review our standard amendments and liaise with external solicitors on these to ensure that they are kept up to date and continue to reflect business priorities in relation to construction projects.
  • Property Management and Leasehold Portfolio
  • A wide range of property management issues arise from the BGIUK property portfolio relating to both freehold and leasehold properties requiring legal advice to be provided to the property team and to the wider business.
  • Assistance is also to be provided in relation to the management of the business's title deeds and property contracts so that these are secure and accessible to the business.
  • . Corporate Acquisitions and Legal Costs
  • Input will be required in respect of proposed corporate acquisitions including assistance with the acquisition process.
  • There will also be a requirement to provide general assistance in respect of the preparation and submission of offers, the review of confidentiality agreements and general advice in respect of the acquisitions process.

    The role requires a qualified lawyer with experience of English commercial property law.
  • Experience in either healthcare or insurance is desirable but not essential;
  • Candidates will need to be keen to advise on a range of issues and taking a pragmatic, solutions-orientated approach to a very broad range of work;
  • Exceptional commercial awareness; good drafting and negotiation skills; good change management skills; tenacious with a high attention to detail; conscientious and hard-working; thrives in a dynamic environment; ability to act with good judgment and discretion, including handling of sensitive matters appropriately;
  • Previous experience of being in an in-house legal department is an advantage but not essential
