Full Job Description

A position has arisen for a legal secretary to join our conveyancing team, to be based at our Durham (Belmont) office on a full time basis as soon as possible., We are looking to recruit a secretary to join our well-established and extremely successful residential conveyancing team at Belmont Business Park, Durham; providing a full range of secretarial and administrative support Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm. Training in conveyancing procedures and our case management system will be provided to the successful candidate., Duties include:

  • The upkeep of typing and filing.

  • Opening files and producing correspondence.

  • Checking of post, planned events and voicemail messages, dealing with any routine matters.

  • Dealing with clients over the telephone and/or in person; answering queries or taking messages where necessary.

  • Reception duties as and when required.

  • Any other duties which from time to time are reasonably required by the firm.

  • Flexibility - although most secretaries work for a designated Fee Earner, all must be willing to accept work from other Fee earners when circumstances dictate.

    Mortons is a broad-based law firm and we are proud of our heritage. Established in the late 19th Century, we have been a permanent fixture in Sunderland ever since. In 2011 we expanded our operations to Seaham and in 2020 we opened our Durham office at Belmont Business Park. We relocated our head office within Sunderland City Centre in March 2024.


  • In addition to being Lexcel, CQS and WIQS accredited, we are contracted to provide publicly funded advice through the Legal Aid Agency and we also hold Children's Panel accreditation and are members of Resolution.
