Full Job Description

This is a fantastic opportunity for a great Deputy Manager to support in leading one of our largest sites and make a real impact in the local community. You'll be creating opportunities for a range of differing needs from cradle to grave, and have the tools to achieve this: including a modern gym, large pool, studio space & community facilities within the Leisure Centre., Act as Deputy to the Leisure Centre Manager and support in providing the safe and efficient management of Leeds City Council Leisure Centres. To support performance management and improvements for the leisure centre in line with corporate and departmental policies and priorities. To contribute to increasing and sustaining active participation across the City. Responsibilities for Grade

  • To assist in the safe, efficient and effective operation of the Leisure Centre, including the management of the operation, programme and development of the centre.
  • To assist with the management and leadership of all members of staff under their control.
  • To lead on the management of the maintenance of the highest standards of cleanliness and presentation, both in respect of the facilities themselves and the staff.
  • To lead on ensuring that all heating, lighting, ventilation, plant and other services are operating to the required standards.
  • To lead on reviewing the processes of both planned and reactive maintenance and resolving any deficiencies with the Leisure Centre Manager and appropriate bodies.
  • To assist in the implementation of training programmes, including the carrying out of training needs assessments and individual appraisal reviews.
  • To assist with the correct and efficient operation of all licensed bar/catering activities where applicable.
  • To assist in developing and implementing service delivery plans and marketing plans for the centre, by working with the Sport Programme Team and Business Support section.
  • To contribute to the effective management of health and safety within the facility
  • To undertake projects required by the centre manager and / or the service.
  • To create and support effective working relationships with managers and stakeholders across Leeds City Council and to create and support effective formal partnerships with internal and external agencies.
  • To act as a key holder and be available for emergency call-out as necessary.
  • To assist the Leisure Centre Manager / Operations Manager to ensure maximum utilisation and income at the facility, including the development of action plans to tackle poor performance.
  • To assist in the management and the undertaking of administrative duties relating to the operation of the facility.
  • To assist with budget planning, preparation and reporting on the operation of the facility.
  • To contribute to the management of the programmes/activities/major events at the facility.
  • To manage payroll and banking procedures.
  • To effectively manage appropriate budgets in accordance with Leeds City Council's Financial Regulations.
  • To undertake any other duties which may be assigned from time to time and that are commensurate with the grade of the post.

  • Knowledge of quality assurance systems and their application to a leisure environment.
  • ISRM National Pool Plant Operators certificate or equivalent,
  • First Aid at Work certificate.
  • Current NPLQ.
  • Institute of Safety and Health (I.O.S.H.) Managing Safely or equivalent.
  • National Licensee certificate where required.
  • Experience of working as part of a management team within a facility.
  • Experience of delivering a safe working and leisure environment.
  • Experience of sports development programmes.
  • Experience of developing business/marketing plans.
  • Experience of business planning process.
  • Experience of working within a Quality Assurance system.
  • Act as a keyholder and emergency call out.
  • Able to work unsociable hours including evening and weekends including emergency cover and short notice cover.
  • Willing to change shifts when necessary., Desirable requirements It is desirable that the candidate should be able to demonstrate the following criteria for the post. Candidates are not required to meet all the desirable requirements however these may be used to distinguish between candidates.
  • ISRM / ILAM certificate or N.V.Q. equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Hospitality.
  • Knowledge of the management of staff training.
