Full Job Description

  • Engage local communities with the Museum of Oxford's 50th birthday celebration project
  • Collect new stories about local heritage and share them with the public
  • Plan and deliver workshops in the museum and the community
  • Create new labels, a temporary exhibition, digital content and collect oral histories for the museum's collection
  • Complete a Level 3 Cultural Learning and Participation Officer Apprenticeship
  • Role responsibilities and main duties:
  • Develop a project plan for the duration of the project, ensuring that it will meet the apprenticeship requirements, with support from WAES and the museum team.
  • Plan and deliver audience engagement activities, which may include developing and delivering arts, culture and heritage focused activity.
  • Develop physical and digital exhibitions and special events in collaboration with community groups and with guidance from the Community Engagement and Exhibitions Officer and Learning Coordinator - including workshops, visits, talks, performances and contributions to exhibitions.
  • Coordinating community collecting days and collecting objects and community stories.
  • Drafting printed and digital communication, including posters, fliers and social media audience messaging, using online content and social networks as appropriate.
  • Install new object labels, objects, and a temporary exhibition with the Community Engagement and Exhibitions Officer.
  • Duty Management of the museum and events, some of which may be in the evenings and at weekends, and may be held in the museum or in the community.
  • Support the administrating of the community and family programmes, as required, including recording evaluation data (qualitative and quantitative/visitor numbers) and financial information.
  • Working with the Volunteer and Operations Officer, scheduling and supporting volunteers for events and activities.
  • Managing requirements for activity programmes including materials and equipment.
  • Managing bookings for events and activities in the museum and community.
