Full Job Description

This is a training post offering the successful candidate the opportunity to work in a supported learning environment in TSDFT Radiology Department. This is a 3 year degree apprenticeship working towards qualification as a B5 Diagnostic Radiographer. The items initalics reflect the role during the training period; on qualification these will be revised to reflect the qualified role. You will be supervised when carrying out all clinical activity through the course of the degree apprenticeship.

  • To carry out supervised radiographic examinations within the agreed scope of practice for the role, striving to produce images that are of exemplary diagnostic quality.
  • To work as part of the Radiology team, supporting Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust (TSDFT) in delivering a high quality, safe and patient focussed service.
  • Represent the Radiology team and TSDFT in a professional and appropriate manner.
  • Contribute to safe working practices, ensuring full compliance with all local and national guidance and regulatory requirements., Progress towards providing high quality diagnostic imaging under supervision within the required scope of practice in any of the TSDFT sites. The scope of training may extend to supporting more complex procedures under supervision, where this is appropriate for the role and after appropriate training.
  • To work within all mandated Regulatory guidelines and comply with all Trust and Departmental, Policies Protocols and Guidelines, ensuring high quality, safe working practices in a safe working environment.
  • Provide highest quality of care, treating all patients equally.
  • The post-holder will be responsible for the safe and efficient use of expensive and complex technical equipment, within the scope of their supervised practice
  • Developing towards management of workload in the room/area they are responsible for.
  • To work as part of the wider TSDFT team, supporting patient pathways for all patient types, assuring that patients receive the most effective and efficient service within the scope of the trainees practice.
  • On successful qualification the post holder will supervise and advise trainees and students.
  • The post holder may be part of the 24 hour/7 day provision of service in support of training. On qualification this service provision will be part of the role and will involve working without more senior radiographic supervision on-site.
  • On qualification the post holder is responsible for maintaining their registration.

    The successful candidate will work in the Main X-ray Department of Torbay Hospital. The BSc Degree course will be provided by the University of Exeter and the practical training being carried out within Torbay and Newton Abbot Hospitals supported by the existing Radiology Team. Academic work is largely via distance learning, though there will be attendance at the University a number of times throughout the 3-year training course. The practical training will initially focus on Plain Film, but will include other areas such as CT and MRI.
  • As a trainee, you will join 2 existing Apprentices and work alongside Student Radiographers who are on the traditional BSc Degree course, also via Exeter University. Practical training is provided by TSDFT Radiographers who have been enthusiastically and successfully supporting such training for many years.     This post is a L6 BSc Apprentice Radiographer on a 3 year degree course. Pay for this role is:
  • Band 3 £24,071 per annum in years 1 and 2 - dependant of experience
  • Band 4 £26,530 per annum in year 3 and then,
  • Band 5 £29,970 per annum once qualified and HCPC registration obtained.
