About this Role Role: Library Assistant Hours: 19 hours a week, Mon - Thurs 12.30pm - 5.15pm with 30 minutes unpaid for lunch. Term-time only. Reports to: Senior Librarian Overview To support the Senior Librarian in the management, development and promotion of the Library, ensuring an effective resource and information service is provided to the school community. Assist with general and day to day duties in our libraries, such as:

  • Issue, return, shelving, weeding recycling and maintenance of resources
  • Supervision of students, ensuring a quiet working environment is maintained
  • Cataloguing new resources
  • Working with the library team to create and distribute information promoting the library and its resources
  • Helping students and staff to locate and use library resources effectively
  • Support library events, e.g. author visits, World Book Day activities
  • Promote and demonstrate the benefits of reading, independent research and library resources

  • Library qualification or degree (desirable)
  • Awareness of children's and YA fiction and authors
  • Developed IT skills, including in the use of MS Office and databases
  • Developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Developed attention to detail, organisation and methodical
  • Developed ability to manage your own workload
  • A passion for books, reading and working with young people
  • Good general knowledge and a curious mind Friendly, and highly professional in your approach to library users and colleagues
  • A team player Courtesy, tact, humour and discretion
  • Flexible adaptable and with a "can do" attitude
