We are excited to announce an opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Library Assistant to join our GBS Library team. GBS, a rapidly growing organization in the Higher Education sector, is partnered with Pearson, University of Suffolk, Canterbury Christ Church University, Bath Spa University, Leeds Trinity University, and Oxford Brookes University, while also offering its own HND programs. Our libraries are located on campuses in London and across some of England's largest cities, including Birmingham, Manchester, and Leeds. The primary responsibilities of this role include supporting the Line Manager in the ongoing development of library resources and ensuring the provision of high-quality services to both students and staff. This is a 5 days per week role (Tuesday - Saturday) with shift patterns: Weekday hours are:

  • Tuesday - Friday: 10:30am - 7pm
  • Saturday - 9am - 5:30pm
  • Liaising with Library colleagues, contribute to the maintenance and development of library systems supporting acquisitions and access. Develop and maintain knowledge of subscriptions management, licensing, Open Access, and library systems. Delivery of Information Literacy sessions as well as bookable 1:1 Ask - a - Librarian sessions. Work on the Library reference desk, dealing with loans, returns, as well as basic and more complicated user enquiries by email, phone or face to face and providing a friendly and efficient service to a wide range of Library users. Work on the implementation of the Library resources using FOLIO Library Management System. Actively update Library statistical data. Provide basic IT Support to students when needed. Participate in library projects and groups and contribute to operational process reviews as required. Participate in promotion of the Library and its services through outreach, events and Library tours for new students. Participate in recruitment procedure. Undertake other duties in support of the work of the Library as may be required, particularly as services develop and change. This includes design of informative material (posters, leaflets, etc.), participate during enrolment days. Shelving duties and maintenance of the library space. Ensure that library rules are applied. Maintenance and simple repairs to books, etc. Inventory monitoring (stationary, promotional materials) Ability to work across teams, building relationships to ensure a good result and high- quality service. Participate in any required meetings and keep up to date with meetings outcomes. Contribute to the development of services through relevant groups, projects and activities. Represent the organisation in external events., Travel across campuses may be required from time to time, in order to support the Library services efficiently or to cover possible staff absence.     The successful candidates should preferably hold a Degree in Library Science or Information Management or be experienced in working in Higher Education libraries. Good knowledge of Cataloguing with MARC21, Dewey classification, experience in working with stakeholders such as EBSCO, enthusiasm, and passion for promoting literacy, are essential. Good communication and organisational skills, customer service, keen on learning and ICT skills are equally important to this role. To deliver services effectively, a degree of flexibility is required in the duties performed in order to meet the demands of the service. Job roles may also naturally develop over time and ongoing substantial changes to a role will be discussed between line managers and their staff, with job descriptions updated as and when appropriate. Ability to be flexible within the working pattern to meet the business needs, including working evenings, weekends or extended hours.
