Full Job Description

You will lead delivery a range of services through the management of your team; and provide expert advice on new areas of work, new legislation and guidance which supports the Council Plan and Place objectives for the library service. You will work in partnership with a range of organisations especially Town and Parish Councils, Libraries Connected Southwest, and the LibrariesWest consortium. What will you be doing?

  • By managing thedevelopment of the library service and professional librarians team, you will ensure the network of libraries is delivering a comprehensive service to communities.
  • In this role, you will also coordinate the services delivered by the Team Manager, Group Librarians, and specialised Librarians.
  • It will be your responsibility to also manage our prison libraries at Eastwood Park and Leyhill Prisons. Liaising with the Prison Librarian to ensure our service level agreement is delivered..
  • It will be your responsibility to liaise with key partners in delivery of services within South Gloucestershire and other areas.
  • You will ensure the service is adhering to South Gloucestershire Council policies and procedures especially regarding to finance, health and safety, HR, and data protection.
  • By taking the lead, you will manage and provide support to those delivering projects.

    It is essential that you are a chartered Librarian or have equivalent professional qualification.
  • We require you to have substantial post qualification experience working in the library field.
  • It is key that you have experience of leading and managing a team.
  • You must have a good understanding and awareness of national library issues and regulations relating to the service.
  • You will have the ability to work with a range of partners within South Gloucestershire and externally to ensure the library service is able to deliver its strategic aims.
  • Although not essential, you may have financial experience or training sufficient to manage budgets.
