Full Job Description

Canterbury Oast Trust are looking for a Life Skills Co-ordinator in the Granary Restaurant to join our team at the Rare Breeds Centre, Woodchurch, Kent.

We provide training opportunities, homes and support including residential care and supported living for adults with learning disabilities.

Our inspiring Life Skills - adult day services promote wellbeing and independence through meaningful work related activities, programmes and qualifications.

As a Life Skills Co-ordinator for the Granary you will facilitate training in two distinct environments:

o THE GRANARY TRAINING KITCHEN, which provides food products for the restaurant and regular events organised by the Trust. Equipped with both commercial and domestic cooking facilities, students are able to learn the hard skills necessary to be safe and successful in a kitchen all while exploring healthy eating, budgeting and baking the odd sweet treat!
o THE GRANARY RESTAURANT, where students have a safe and lively environment to practice and learn hospitality skills while engaging with visitors to the Rare Breeds Centre. Those looking to take their food preparation skills out of the training kitchen can explore barista skills and heating convenience meals.

This might sound like a lot but we usually find time for some games, jokes and social time!

WHAT OUR STAFF SAY: "I never fail to feel inspired by the enthusiasm, participation and energy shown by the students, to see their engagement with others, their development and confidence as individuals as well as part of a team." - Life Skills Tutor

As a Life Skills Co-ordinator in the Granary you must have an appreciation of the very individual needs and aspirations of the people with learning disabilities who we support.

Other suitable skills and experience we would like our Life Skills Co-ordinator to have include:

o Experience of leading in a kitchen environment e.g. bakery or cafe.
o Level 2 Food Hygiene.
o Excellent written and verbal communication skills

WHAT OUR STUDENTS SAY: "We want someone kind, caring and understanding who will take the time to understand how we work." - Maddie (Granary Student)

o Annual Salary: £20,670 pa based on 30 hrs/wk (FTE £25,837.50 pa)

o 18 days annual leave plus statutory bank holidays; Additional annual leave for 3,4 and 5 years continuous service

o Paid DBS check

o Contributory pension scheme

o Healthcare Cash Plan

o Excellent training and development opportunities

o Free entry to Rare Breeds Centre - 2 adults & 2 children
