Full Job Description

We invite applications for a Locally Employed Doctor at Good Hope Hospital (GHH), part of University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB). The successful applicant will be part of the Tier 2 rota at Good Hope Hospital. This is a fixed term post for 12 months to cover a rota gap, with possibility for extension., To undertake Tier 2 duties on the Tier 2 Medical rota, and function at a senior practitioner level, to provide autonomous clinical care. General paediatric on calls as per the rota which includes long days, Twilights, night shifts alongside 9 to 5 shifts on a 8 cell rota. Continuous assessment of patients during on call, leading the team and supervising the Resident Doctors whilst on call Ensure the patients reviewed are post taken with a consultant during the on call Prepare the list of patients in the morning in preparation of the morning post take when on call and ensuring smooth flow of patients between emergency department, hildren's ward and Children's Assessment unit Do some paediatric outpatient clinics as required. Teaching medical students and trainee doctors and helping in nursing teaching programmes, run on the ward. Taking responsibility for organising timely appraisal and assessments with consultants for portfolio. Cover other colleagues in their absence in respect of annual, study leave and bank holidays. Contributing to the clinical governance - audit, service improvement projects, teaching rota. To participate in Continuous Medical Education (CME) and maintain a portfolio for revalidation. Complete admin work / letters from clinical activity. Maintain mandatory training, Service Delivery : 1. Medical care provision to babies & children within the Paediatric Unit on GH site. 2. Participate on the medical Tier 2 rota. 3. Attend Delivery suite for high-risk deliveries 4. Initiate, lead and supervise resuscitation of compromised infants, children & young people as required in accordance with the Local and National Guidelines. 5. Communicate sensitive and complex information to parents 6. Examine and assess babies, children and young people instigate appropriate management if required ( organizing OPD appointments) and give consent to discharge 7. When requested assess babies, children and young people which require medical intervention. Initiate clinical management, having established a differential diagnosis, and arrange appropriate treatment, or referral. 8. Diagnose and initiate treatment plans and evaluate the response to the treatment. 9. Provide ongoing management and seek senior advice when clinically indicated. 10. Deliver complex high-level interventions autonomously. 11. Act as an expert resource to the multidisciplinary team. 12. Perform, request, monitor and interpret investigations. Take appropriate follow-up action in accordance with local unit guidelines, Seek advice from consultant as necessary within limits of personal expertise. 13. Assess, plan and implement individual medical care plans, in collaboration with other members of the multi-disciplinary team. Evaluate progress, advise care management when appropriate, and document daily progress in the medical notes. 14. Write precise, accurate and timely records, letters, reports and statements in accordance with the Data Protection Act 15. Perform discharge examinations of infants, children and young people and liaise with General Practitioners and other members of the Community Care Team as appropriate. 16. Develop and maintain effective communication with parents and families. Ensure documentation of communication. 17. Undertake diagnostic and therapeutic procedures appropriately, adhering to written protocols and guidelines : - Venepuncture and capillary blood sampling Percutaneous arterial blood sampling Peripheral and umbilical venous cannulation and removal Insertion and removal of percutaneous central venous catheters Peripheral and umbilical arterial catheter insertion and removal Withdrawal of blood from indwelling arterial catheters / cannula Insertion and removal of endotracheal tubes Administer Surfactant via LISA procedure Lumbar punctures Insertion of chest drain / needling of intra-pleural space. Administer newborn Immunisations Cold Light Examination of the chest Urinary catheterization Requesting and interpretation of Chest and Abdominal X-rays 18. Prescribe drugs in accordance with the BNF Children's & Neonatal Formulary 19. Provide written instructions for blood components as per guidelines. 20. Develop specialist care packages during clinical ward rounds, both receiving and providing complex case presentations. 21. Participate in local audits

  • Full GMC registration
  • Eligibility to live and work in the UK
  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies in line with GMC standards / Good Medical Practice
  • Recent Neonatal experience within NHS

  • APLS, PILS or EPALS AND NLS provider course passed. Previous experience of working with children Part 1 MRCPH or post graduate Paediatric qualification overseas
