Locally Employed Doctors (CT1/2 or ST1/2 level equivalent) - General Medicine
There are currently excellent opportunities at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust for doctors wishing to enhance their CV, prior to either Core Training or Specialty Training applications.
We are looking for dynamic, enthusiastic and motivated doctors to join our clinical teams in general internal medicine to include:
+ Gastroenterology
+ Healthcare of the Older Person
+ Cardiology
There are opportunities to undertake a diverse range of clinical work and these posts will be invaluable for those looking to gain more medical experience prior to undertaking their next training post.
All posts will have on-call commitments at CT level.
The posts are available from August 2024 to August 2025 and are based at Torbay Hospital. There could be an opportunity to extend the post beyond the current planned finish date of August 2025.

You will be expected to participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds and to present at the daily board round to assist in patient management and discharge planning. All team members are expected to take an active part in liaison with patients, their careers and relatives and their healthcare workers in the community. Every team member has a responsibility to provide accurate discharge information to GPs and community hospitals. You will be expected to abide by the code set out in the GMC "Good Medical Practice" and to continue to improve on the generic competencies outlined in the Foundation Programme. Other responsibilities include:
+ Taking a complete medical history in a holistic way, with a focus on the patient's agenda
+ Performing a complete systems examination while maintaining the dignity of the patient
+ Requesting and interpreting appropriate investigations including radiological tests, biochemistry and haematology tests and basic microbiological tests
+ Working as part of a multidisciplinary team in patient management, with a focus on effective communication
+ Learning to prioritise tasks to enable safe and high quality patient care
+ Supervising, training and assisting junior clinical staff when required
+ Participating in ward rounds and multi-disciplinary rounds as timetabled
+ Referring on to specialty inpatient teams by telephone or electronic referral system
+ Completing discharge summaries
+ Attending weekly educational and multidisciplinary sessions
+ Supervising medical students
+ Complying with all local policies including dress code, annual and study leave

Posts can be either 100% clinical, or 80% clinical and 20% non-clinical, with non-clinical time being used for trust-approved work in quality improvement, medical education or leadership and management. We will also support our successful candidates in their development by offering funding for a postgraduate certificate in an appropriate subject.
Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust is an integrated organisation providing acute health care services from Torbay Hospital, community health services and adult social care. The Trust runs Torbay Hospital as well as five community hospitals, stretching from Dawlish to Brixham. We also provide health and social care to the local population. We have around 500,000 face-to-face contacts with patients in their homes and communities each year and see over 78,000 people in our A&E department annually. We serve a resident population of approximately 286,000 people, plus about 100,000 visitors at any one time during the summer holiday season.
