Full Job Description

The role involves covering the children's ward and assessment unit, the neonatal unit and elective work, including clinics. There will be an option for the appointee to take on the role of 'Named Doctor for Safeguarding children' This is a shared role at Airedale and a senior community consultant holds half of the role. The option would be to take on the other half of this role with the support of our experienced safeguarding team. Airedale has visiting specialists from the local teaching hospital in Leeds, including Cardiology, Endocrinology, Nephrology, Rheumatology and various Paediatric surgical specialities. There is also an established diabetes and allergy service, and we are a shared care site for paediatric oncology. The appointee will be required to support tertiary rheumatology in a joint clinic at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust with the consultant from Leeds. No prior rheumatology experience is required. This would be a useful learning opportunity for the successful appointee. The paediatric rota is a 1 in 10. Airedale has a paediatrician of the week structure with one paediatrician covering the ward Monday -Saturday. The Monday to Friday paediatric shifts are 9-5 and there is a separate daily neonatal consultant who covers the long day 9-9.30pm and is then non-resident on call overnight. The Friday long day consultant also covers the Sunday. Weekend shifts are 9-6pm and then non-resident on call until 9am the next day. (Please see the timetable on page 6 of JD/SPec)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for dynamic and motivated individuals to join the enthusiastic consultants in the acute paediatric service at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust. The department offers a supportive and encouraging environment for professional development and a satisfying work life balance. This NHS Locum post has been developed due to a secondment within the acute paediatric team. Following full middle grade establishment paediatric consultants have become non resident at night. The trust is attractive to SAS doctors due to its CESR programme, and it is an expectation that the post holders will also support this development. There has been a recent investment in the paediatric ward and the unit now has a dedicated assessment area to provide ambulatory care and reduce the number of emergency admissions to our unit. Further development of ambulatory care is a key part of our future vision with system partners., We are delighted to offer a wide range of benefits to employees including:
