Full Job Description

The appointment is for a full-time locum Consultant Physician in Cardiology with an interest in Cardiac Electrophysiology jointly with Imperial College Hospital NHS Hospitals Trust. Applications are invited from Full time, Part time and Job Share applicants. If a person is appointed as a part-time or job share position modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the trust in consultation with consultant colleagues. The post holder will work with the existing Consultants to develop services in Cardiology and arises from increasing demand for services. This post is designed to support cardiology services, particularly Cardiac Electrophysiology and as such a specialist interest in these areas is preferred. An interest in devices can also be accommodated. This is an exciting time for the service with a new diagnostic centre planned for the West Middlesex Site, with cardiac MRI as part of this new centre and an increasing innovation and research programme.
Newly appointed consultants will have access to mentoring support. This post is a joint development with colleagues at Imperial College Hospitals NHS Trust to support development of arrhythmia services at both Trusts and further develop collaborative working

Main duties of the job

Participate in, and provide committed acute cardiac inpatient and outpatient care, with supervision of colleagues.

Facilitate access to a full range of inpatient and outpatient cardiology services.

Undertake specialist cardiology work and lead the multidisciplinary team

Be expected to cover for absent Consultant colleagues within the Department to allow for annual and study leave.

Make collaboration between hospital and community services as efficient as possible, supporting discharge from hospital where appropriate and ensuring appropriate follow up arrangements.

Provide peer group support, supervision, further education and professional development essential to the welfare and effectiveness of trainees in Cardiology, General Internal Medicine and the allied professions.

Be educationally responsible for training and appraisal of junior staff

Demonstrate a continuing commitment to research, audit and evaluation in cardiology.

Develop communication and other non-clinical aspects of cardiac services.

Actively participate in undergraduate teaching of clinical medical students attached to the service.

As the UK's first Academic Health Science Centre, the integration of research with clinical care is central to the hospital's mission. Cardiovascular Medicine is predominately based at the Hammersmith Hospital with inpatient consultations, and outpatient clinics at St Mary's Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital, and outpatient and investigative services at a number of community settings.
