Full Job Description

Diagnostic services are shared between consultants on a flexible rota, agreed among the consultants. There is currently subspecialisation with each consultant covering between one and four subspecialties. The specific clinical duties of the post will be agreed with the successful candidate at the time of job planning. The appointed consultant will be expected to participate in diagnostic surgical pathology and multidisciplinary team meetings. It is expected that Consultants will participate in EQA in their specialist areas. Group Clinical Services Consultant positions generally are job planned for 9:1 DCC: SPA (SPA for CPD, Audit etc. and is pro rata). Additional PAs are associated with additional responsibilities.

The clinical duties of the post include the following:

Reporting of diagnostic histopathology/diagnostic cytology specimens

Participation in MDTs

Clinical educational supervision of trainees

Participation in governance and management, Applications re invited for the post of Locum Consultant Histopathologist with a specialist interest in two of the following areas: Medical renal pathology and uropathology.

There is potential for a full-time role in renal pathology should this be of interest which principally would be based at the Royal Free Hospital with part-time working /cross-cover with the renal pathologists at the Royal London Hospital in East London. The role includes native and transplant renal pathology and attendance at the weekly MDT meeting and provision of urgent/same-day reporting at both sites (with no on-call commitment). There is potential to be involved with departmental research. The current workload is around 40-45 complex cases per month. The successful applicant is expected to work closely with colleagues at The Royal London to deliver a resilient cross-site service.

The post holder accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation, where practicable, with their colleagues, both senior and junior.
