Full Job Description

We are recruiting for a Locum Consultant Colorectal Surgeon for an initial period of 12 months who wishes to join #TeamIOWNHS. You should share our passion and drive to ensure that our patients receive quality and compassionate care and work with us to ensure the Trust continues its journey towards "great people, great place".

Are you looking to develop a unique surgical career or to re-locate to develop a new life style.

We are seeking an imaginative Colorectal & General Surgeon to support the development of our services and to share in the unique life style offered by living and working on the Isle of Wight.

The Isle of Wight is a unique and stunning gem located off the South Coast of England, a short ferry journey from Portsmouth and Southampton, with journey times taking from as little as 10 minutes. London can be reached in 90 minutes by rail from Southampton or Portsmouth. The island offers an amazing coastline with beautiful countryside, year-round events, festivals and award-winning attractions.

As a colorectal cancer surgeon you would support our existing general surgical unit. This is an exciting opportunity either for a newly qualified, forward thinking, enthusiastic colorectal consultant or an experienced consultant who wants a new beginning with a better work life balance.

We are passionate about providing excellent CARE, which is why our values areCompassion,Accountable,Respect andEveryone counts. Our mission is to make sure that our community is at the heart of everything we do and that we hold our values across all our services.

We are committed to endorsing inclusion, diversity and multiculturalism throughout out services and as such, our procedures and policies ensure that applicants are always treated fairly throughout the recruitment process., We provide a robust emergency and planned surgical service for the island population and this posts will be part of this plan with inclusion in the emergency general surgery on-call provision. The post is based at St. Mary's Hospitals, Newport, Isle of Wight.

Our population is small (145000) and we are one of the smallest district hospitals in England. This provides challenges and opportunities. We are an isolated Island community yet only 2 hours from London!

You will be offering core general surgical skills to ensure our surgical take is offering a truly excellent consultant delivered service., The Isle of Wight NHS Trust is the only integrated acute, community, mental health and ambulance health care provider in England. We serve a population of approximately 150,000 residents, making the services we offer variable and personalised with a flexible approach to our service users.

Working for our Trust brings a variety of benefits, including an onsite day nursery, cycle-to-work scheme, discounts at local businesses and gyms, and the opportunity to hire Trust's beach hut in Ryde. We offer many flexible working opportunities, speak to us about how we might be able to accommodate a flexible working arrangement for you and if it works for the service, we will do our best to make it work for you.

We have formed a group model with Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. This enables us to be part of their colorectal cancer MDT and currently refer low rectal cancers for Robotic rectal resections, early rectal cancers for Robotic TEMS, young right colon cancers for Robotic CME, selected locally advanced rectal cancers for Robotic exenteration procedures and other procedures like Robotic LPLND and para-aortic lymph node dissection. There may be opportunities in the future for successful candidates to be able to be mentored in such procedures and share joint operation at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth.
