University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Locum Consultant Gastroenterologist to join our dynamic department as part of service expansion.
The successful appointee will join alongside the existing 16 substantive Gastroenterology Consultants in delivery of high quality inpatient and outpatient provision of Gastroenterology and Hepatology services to this large Trust. The successful candidates will be expected to have established foundation in gastroenterology and endoscopy, and to share their expertise in supporting and developing a forward thinking service. Candidates with an established sub-speciality interest in IBD, Hepatology, and/or nutrition would be considered on the basis of departmental requirements.
The post-holder will participate in the Gastroenterology Consultant on call (including out of hours GI bleed on call), and support delivery of weekend endoscopy lists as necessary. There is no general medical on call commitment., The Gastroenterology ward moved to Ward 32 in March 2020, to enable expansion and accommodate future provision for a dedicated 10-bedded intestinal failure unit. There are 32 inpatient beds alongside 2 dedicated side-rooms for day-case admission for ambulatory care and
assessment.
The state of the art JAG approved endoscopy suite at UHCW comprises 8 endoscopy rooms (5 at UH, and 3 at Rugby St Cross), a
seminar room (with video links to 2 endoscopy rooms) and a video processor system for ERCP in the X-ray department. There is an established small bowel capsule endoscopy service and single balloon enteroscopy service, and a newly developed colon capsule service. The department also
undertakes endoscopic ultrasound (radial and linear).
All of the equipment in the department is supplied by Olympus and was refurbished with state of the art equipment in January 2016. There has been further significant capital investment for new equipment in 2020. The department runs a JAG colonoscopy up-skilling course quarterly., UHCW NHS Trust, by virtue of its Green Plan, is committed to ensuring that the way we provide services minimises the impact on the environment and the future health of the public e.g. zero waste to landfill, reducing our carbon footprint and increasing our recycling and reuse percentages.

Depending on you level of exposure with patients you may be required to undertake a Standard or Enhanced DBS. The cost of this check will be charged to you and will be deducted from your salary over the first 3 months of employment at the current rate.
