Full Job Description

We have available a 10 PA Locum Consultant gastroenterology post at Barts Health, Royal London Hospital. This will be based mainly at Royal London Hospital with some endoscopy activity at Mile End Hospital and Barts Hospital. We are looking for a dynamic, creative, and motivated Consultant to join our team of gastroenterology and hepatology consultants and HPB endoscopists. This is a locum post to join the existing gastroenterology service and support the luminal service of IBD and Nutrition but there is flexibility in this focus. This post is to provide additional capacity for our expanding service. We welcome applications from senior trainees who will be within six months of completion of specialist training and could also be adapted to a less than full-time post. As with all gastroenterology consultants in the Royal London Hospital, the job plan includes some weekend and emergency working. The post holders will work alongside the established gastroenterology consultants to support provision of outpatient services. Main duties of the job The Department offers a wide range of services with special interests in:1. Clinical Nutrition: covers inpatient parenteral & enteral nutrition including intestinal failure surgical cases. The Royal London Hospital is an accredited CIFNET centre and has a large home parenteral nutrition service.2. Inflammatory bowel disease - The department has adult and young adult IBD clinics and inpatient beds on a dedicated gastroenterology ward. There is a large multi-disciplinary team including 5 IBD nurses, 3 CRN Research Nurses, Dietician, Pharmacist, Psychiatrist & CBT therapist. There are weekly MDT meetings with surgery and radiology. The MDT receives tertiary referrals from around the region and has an active research portfolio.3. Diagnostic and Therapeutic Endoscopy: a. EMR and ESD. b. APC, luminal dilatation and stenting and wireless capsule endoscopy. c. ERCP and Spy Glass, EUS, Luminal & biliary stenting, advanced biliary access techniques such as CDS/HGS, colonoscopy An Early Diagnostic Centre at Mile End Hospital includes a 2 endoscopy rooms dedicated to surveillance endoscopy with integrated approach to research through collaborations with the Cancer Institute. a. Gastrointestinal cancer - Upper GI, Lower GI and HPB. b. Non-transplant hepatology, particularly viral hepatitis. c. Physiology: GI motility, 24-hour pH studies

  • MRCP or Equivalent
  • Full GMC Registration
  • CCT in Gastroenterology and GIM or within 6 months of obtaining
  • Desirable
  • Higher Research Degree
  • Experience Essential
  • Broad experience in Gastroenterology clinic and ward work
  • Meets BSG/JAG standards
  • Desirable
  • Evidence of specialist IBD and Nutrition Medical knowledge
  • Independent in IBD surveillance endoscopy
  • Independent in intestinal ultrasound
  • Skills Essential
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to teach students, junior doctors and AHP
  • Ability to manage staff and resources effectively
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Diagnostic and upper GI and lower GI endoscopy
  • Independent in management of emergency endoscopy
  • Desirable
  • Training skills in endoscopy
  • Independent in intestinal ultrasound, Detailed knowledge of Gastroenterology
  • Knowledge of the specialist skills required for this post
