Full Job Description

We are looking to recruit a locum Consultant Gastroenterologist to cover absence a period of 6 months.
The successful candidate will provide out-patient clinics and endoscopy lists independently, and may be required to supervise junior doctors in the out-patient clinic.
The candidate will be fully JAG accredited in gastroscopy and colonoscopy and will be able to provide evidence of independent practice with KPIs that fulfil JAG standards
They will be able to provide evidence of independent practice in the out-patient setting managing general gastroenterology and hepatology patients.
Clinics and endoscopy lists run from 08:30-12:30 and 13:30-17:00 across all three Trust sites (Watford General, Hemel Hempstead Hospital, St Albans City Hospital).
There will be no out of hours or weekend commitment., The candidate will manage patients independently in a gastroenterology clinic and will see a mixture of new (allocated 30 minute appointments) and follow up (15 minutes). They may be required to supervise junior doctors and time will be allocated to do this.
They will also perform independent endoscopy lists. These will be mixed lists of OGD (allocated 1 point), flexible sigmoidoscopy (1 point) and colonoscopy (2 points). The lists will consist of diagnostic procedures with therapy as required, eg level 1-2 colonic polyps. 10 points per list. Lists will be primarily elective out-patient lists but there may be a need to help with the daily in-patient list where patients with GI bleeding and other emergencies are managed.
The candidate will need to demonstrate JAG accreditation in upper and lower GI endoscopy and show evidence of experience of managing patients independently in clinic.
There will be no responsibility for the ongoing management of patients on the Gastroenterology ward, but it may be necessary to help provide in-patient Gastroenterology reviews for patients in the acute medical admissions unit.
They may be required to travel between all three hospital sites during the working week.
