Full Job Description
Providing General surgical services to King's Mill and Newark Hospital with two dedicated inpatient wards at King's Mill to cover all aspects of General surgery. A Day Case Unit and Surgical Assessment Unit provides 24 hour care for surgical admissions and emergencies. Several dedicated General surgical theatres and an emergency theatre shared with other surgical specialties.
We are a committed and enthusiastic department with Consultants providing surgical cover and a special interest, as well as general surgery. The General surgical Consultants have good working relationships with Gastroenterology Consultants and surgical colleagues at the regional gastro-oesophageal and hepatobiliary/pancreatic cancer (Nottingham University Hospitals) centres and colorectal surgery at NUH.
The spectrum of benign UGI/HPB is mostly biliary and anti-reflux related. We have strong links with the regional tertiary referral UGI and HPB units in Nottingham with regular clinics and joint multidisciplinary meetings. We have a local ERCP and EUS service run by Gastroenterology.
This appointment supports the expansion of our surgical same day admission unit, with a plan for this to be extended beyond an initial 6 months. The applicant will be fully integrated in to the unit with active involvement in the on call rota (currently 1 in 10 but expected to increase with this role.) Involvement in the hot cholecystectomy service is advantageous and endoscopic/advanced laparoscopic skills are welcomed., + Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients
+ To share best practice and promote team working within the General Surgical department and GI multidisciplinary team
+ Teaching and training of junior staff and medical students
+ To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit
+ To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME)
