Full Job Description

Applications are invited for the above full time posts for this 660 bedded acute hospital serving a local population of approximately 400,000. The appointment will be made in accordance with the terms and conditions of service for the 2003 consultant contract (England). The appointee will be expected to work with the other Consultants in Acute Medicine, Specialist Consultants and the Elderly Medicine Physicians to deliver a comprehensive emergency service in Acute General and Elderly Medicine. This role has been created to offer a high quality and resilient solution to outlying medical patients within Luton and Dunstable hospital. The role is to take on management of up to 25 medical patients within clinical areas not normally designated medical inpatient facilities. The Surgical Short Stay Unit (SSSU) is often used to manage medical patients who can not be accommodated on the base medical wards. It has a capacity for 18 patients and will be the responsibility of tis post holder to provide high quality medical care for these patients. The post holder will also then take on additional outliers in other clinical areas as required up to an expected number of 25. On occasions where site pressures are extreme or where the location of outliers makes it sensible this limit will be exceeded. Where there are no outliers to manage, the post holder will be expected to assist with the management of the medical take in conjunction with the "A rota" consultant.Main duties of the job The keys tasks for the role of Locum Consultant Acute Medicine are; Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of all patients presenting to the Hospital. To undertake duties as defined within the agreed job plan To participate in any on-call rotas providing specialist, timely advice in line with the seven day working national agenda and local service need.

  • Teaching and training of intermediate grade and, junior medical staff, nursing staff and medical students. Supporting members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
