Full Job Description

Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant post in Anaesthesia (up to 12-months) to join our dynamic and thriving A.C.S.A. accredited department at the Royal United Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Bath.
We are looking for committed anaesthetists of proven ability who will be able to contribute fully to both clinical and managerial roles within the department. The candidates should bring skills or knowledge that will enhance and expand the services already provided at the Royal United Hospital. An ability to embrace change and to develop services for more effective care delivery will be considered an asset.
The appointee will work clinically at the RUH (Royal United Hospital) Combe Park site and at Sulis Hospital (which is owned by the RUH) at Peasedown St John, 7 miles south of Bath.
In addition to weekday work, there will be an expectation for the appointee to cover resident evening on-call sessions (17:30 - 20:30), resident daytime weekend on-call sessions, non-resident night on-call sessions or daytime weekend trauma lists at the RUH. The appointee may be expected to cover some elective sessions at the weekend.

Applicants wishing to work less than full-time or flexible working patterns would be considered. The successful applicants will hold a CCT in Anaesthesia (or equivalent)., The post will be based at the RUH, and the holder will participate in audit and directorate meetings and undertake administrative duties as required by the Clinical lead for Anaesthesia.
A commitment to maintain professional expertise by attendance at meetings and courses is expected, and completion of diaries for CME is essential. It is mandatory that you have an annual appraisal.
Our rotas are published as early in advance as possible and we undertake to make the flexible element of the program as varied as possible. There may be a variety of the following lists: general surgery, orthopaedic surgery, day-case surgery, urology, ENT, gynaecology, ophthalmology, dental and onco-plastic breast surgery. The department uses the CLW electronic rota management programme.
Management Duties: The post holder will be expected to work with local managers, professional colleagues and allied medical professionals to ensure the safe and efficient running of services.
Consultants are required to undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the running of clinical areas where they work.
General Requirements: Subject to the provisions of the Terms and Conditions of Service, the post holder will be expected to observe the Trust's agreed policies and procedures, drawn up in consultation with the profession on clinical matters and to follow the standing orders, financial instructions, and code of expectations of the Trust.
