Full Job Description

The post will be based at Princess Royal University Hospital and the proposed Job Plan (up to 10 PAs) is attached. This is subject to review within 3 months of the post holder commencing in post.

The job plan has no regular on call commitments however the successful candidate is expected to contribute to the on call rota as a Consultant General Surgeon on demand and as required by the service.

All employees are expected to undertake work on any of theTrust's sites as required by the service. As a senior employee of the Trust, you will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust's patients. Integral to these responsibilities are the following:

The provision of a first-class clinical service

Effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty

Sustaining and developing teaching and research in conjunction with King's College London / KHP

Undertaking all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies

Conducting clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's service plans

Maintaining the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Care Group or the Trust, The Princess Royal University Hospital has a busy Breast service, the post holder will be expected to lead a team of junior doctors to deliver high quality care to patients referred via various pathways, they will also be expected to provide viable onward plans for all in and out patients. Breast suspected cancer referrals are one of the highest in London, support for the MDT and the associated virtual clinics are an integral part of the role as is continuing improvement in future 28 day targets when they are fully implemented next year., The Clinical Director (CD) of Surgery Theatres Anaesthetics & Endoscopy (Dr Swinda Esprit) is responsible for strategic direction and oversight of the care group.

The care group triumvirate consists of General Manager (Mr Richard Griffiths) Head of Nursing (Mr Vctor Sanchez Castrillon) and the Clinical Director (Dr Angela Orunta). There are 5 Clinical Leads within the Care Group (General Surgery, Endoscopy, ENT, Pain and Anaesthetics).

There is a clearly defined pan care group approach to governance with governance lead Dr Roshmi Kumar.

General Surgery is part of the Surgery, Theatres, Anaesthetics and Endoscopy Care Group. The Department of General surgery is based at the Princess Royal University Hospital with some clinical activities at Beckenham Beacon and Orpington. The outpatient and administrative functions for the surgical team are based at Princess Royal University Hospital.

£105,504 to £139,882 a year per annum including London Zone Allowance
