Full Job Description

Our Cardiology team is made up of a wide range of enthusiastic and passionate individuals including 14 consultants, 3 Specialty Doctors, 4 Specialty Registrars, 3 core trainees and 3 Foundation trainees. We have invaluable support from a team of specialist nurses based both in our trust and in the community.

We invite applications for consultants in cardiology with a specialist interest and formal training in CMR (Cardiac Magnetic Resonance). An interest in an additional non-invasive subspecialty, or general medicine would also be welcomed.

Our vision is to deliver patient centred, accessible and integrated services, as seamlessly as possible with primary care. With 11 Coronary Care and 26 Cardiology beds, new diagnostic facilities, and access to a full range of non-invasive and invasive cardiac facilities our team has access to exceptional, modern facilities as well as general imaging, including TTE and TOE, CTCA, CMRI (including stress MR) and Interventional radiology services. We have a fully established bradycardia pacing, complex device, and PCI service (excluding PPCI provided in the Tertiary centre). We have an established Nurse-led heart failure service with community integration., The main duties of the post will include:

Providing, in conjunction with consultant colleagues, an acute cardiology service to the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

Inpatient cardiology work including the 11 bedded CCU and 28 bedded cardiology ward

Urgent and Emergency Care duties for cardiology at Pinderfields out of hours is currently assessed as 0.45PA per week, with local weekday on-calls (1:12), and weekend on-calls (1:10). This equates to an 3% availability supplement

The Department runs 2 cardiologist of the week rotas on a 1 in 13 basis;

o One for the 11 bedded CCU (which includes accepting referrals from the Acute Admissions Unit and from inpatients elsewhere in the hospital)

One for the 28 bedded cardiology ward.

Participate in and help further develop the cardiac MRI service. A second non-invasive subspecialty, (which can include general internal medicine) is welcomed.

The CMR service currently scans about 1000 patients per year including stress perfusion, inpatients, and cardio-oncology surveillance. Demand for CMR continues to increase and we anticipate this number will continue to grow. We scan across all three sites (Pontefract, Pinderfields and Dewsbury). Ideally the successful candidate would have level 2 or 3 CMR reporting experience and be able to supervise and report at least one list per week.

We are an acute trust caring for over one million people in Wakefield and Kirklees. Our 10,000 staff work in patients homes, the community, and our three hospitals in Pontefract, Dewsbury, and Pinderfields (Wakefield). We prioritise our people and values so we can deliver the best possible care to patients. Our team is friendly, passionate, and innovative, always seeking better ways to work.

We support work-life balance and foster a diverse, inclusive environment where everyone belongs. Our staff networks offer safe spaces to share ideas and concerns so we can increase awareness and appreciation of equality, diversity, and inclusion. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and especially encourage members of the LGBTQ+ community, ethnic minority groups, and people with disabilities or neurodivergence to apply, as they are currently underrepresented in the Trust.

If you value caring, high standards, improvement, and respect, join the MY team to make a difference every day.
