Full Job Description
+ Responsible for the management of outpatient, day surgery and in-patients
+ To lead ward rounds, outpatients and theatre activity
+ Perform HPB surgical procedures including cholecystectomy and cancer resection
+ Outpatient review of patients and assessment of new referrals to the department.
+ To undertake diagnostic testing
+ To take part on the one-in-8 consultant on-call rota
+ To participate in a management role at an appropriate point
+ To contribute to the strategic planning and service development of the HPB department, + To provide Consultant HPB services at the University Hospitals of Leicester, covering major liver and pancreatic resection and supporting the NET service (including the NET MDT)
+ To ensure the provision of good standards of practice and care, as prescribed in GMC Guidance 'Duties of a Doctor', at all times; and ensuring that bad practice is reported, as appropriate.
+ To ensure that clinical practice is both effective and efficient and that appropriate monitoring of clinical care takes place.
+ To co-operate in ensuring that services deliver national targets and the local agenda and that the contract is achieved within budget.
+ The Consultant has a continuing responsibility for the care of the patients in their charge and for the proper organization and functioning of their clinical practice. To achieve this, the post holder will liaise closely with other specialties, departments and outside agencies in contributing to the objectives of the department, CMG & Trust.
+ To take responsibility for ensuring that critical clinical incidents, as defined in the Trust's 'Critical Incident Policy', are reported either to the Head of Service or Clinical Director or the Medical Director in a timely manner.
+ To actively participate in audit
+ To participate in yearly appraisal and the job planning process.
+ To undertake Mandatory & Statutory training as determined by the Trust and Clinical Business Unit

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding consultant surgeon colleague to join our team of HPB Consultant Surgeons based at Leicester Glenfield Hospital. We are looking to appoint one fixed term (12 months) post, with a view to a permanent role.
Leicester has a large thriving HPB department which covers a catchment area of over 2 million. The unit undertakes over 80 pancreatic surgeries annually and over 120 liver resections. Leicester has a thriving research and teaching record. The unit work closely as a team delivering the best possible care for their patients. The Leicester HPB department also hosts the largest ERCP department in England undertaking over 1000 ERCPs annually. Leicester is also one of only 4 national centers who have been commissioned to undertake TPIAT (Total pancreatectomy and islet autotransplantation) for patients with chronic pancreatitis.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check
Please note if you are successful in obtaining this position and the post involves regulated activity you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service check.
The Trust will pay for the check initially and the money will then be deducted from your salary over a three month period commencing on your first month's payment.
The current price of a check is £38 for an enhanced and £18 for a standard check.
