Locum Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology

This post will have responsibility for promoting in-house delivery suite/obstetrics and gynaecology training and clinical and managerial responsibility for further developing services within our dedicated antenatal or gynaecology clinics and by liaison with adult medical specialties. There are 7 dedicated obstetricians, 5 dedicated gynaecologists and 6 other consultants in obstetrics and gynaecology at City Hospital with a full complement of junior staff.
This post is designed to maintain 98 hours consultant presence on delivery suite. The job plan is full-time, 10PA/wk; it includes one 12 hour dayshift on Delivery Suite + non-resident on call alternate week for either Obstetrics or Gynaecology and regular Fri/weekend on call work (1:8 wks)

Applicants are required to have CCT or equivalent and entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Obstetrics and Gynaecology; full GMC registration, MRCOG (or equivalent) and RCOG ATSM qualification in Advanced Labour Ward practice is essential.

As such, it has invested significantly in the Directorate and will continue to do so to promote an exceptional standard.
All maternity services were originally provided at MMUH, delivering approximately 6000 women per year, where there is a large level 2+ NNU and full capability to provide HDU and ITU care to our mothers. There is a nationally recognized co-located midwifery-led birthing unit (Serenity Suite) and are now moving to Midland Metropolitan Hospital,
Antenatal care is based on a specialist multidisciplinary clinic model with clinics being staffed by dual consultants.
Gynaecological Services are delivered from both hospital sites at present and have some community gynaecology services. There are dedicated clinics for 1 stop PMB, outpatient office Gynaecology procedures unit, Recurrent miscarriage, Colposcopy, Vulvar disorders, [INS: Pelvic pain/Endometriosis, Abnormal cervix /PCB :INS] [INS: , :INS] and Urogynaecology). We delivered nearly 10,000 new and 6500 follow-up consultations in 2018. There is a Treatment Centre for Day case and 23 hours surgery on the City site and major theatres operating on City site. There are no Gynaecology In-patient beds at Sandwell hospital with no major surgery except for odd Emergency case.
