Full Job Description

Applications are invited for a 10 PA locum consultant post in paediatric interventional radiology, based at Great Ormond Street Hospital to cover a sabbatical. The successful applicant will work as part of a team of doctors, radiographers and nurses, which includes 8.5 WTE Interventional Radiology consultants and one fellow.

The post will require a radiologist skilled in a wide range of interventional radiology techniques including expertise in paediatric interventional radiology. They will join the consultant team to provide an interventional on call service and a comprehensive paediatric interventional radiology service supporting the interventional radiology operating lists, MDTs and clinics.

The successful applicant will be expected to have undergone training in paediatric interventional radiology, including procedures in neonates and children under the age of 2 years. They will work within a team with five other paediatric interventional radiologists, two neuro-interventional radiologists, radiographer consultant, specialist radiographers and nurses performing a variety of interventional procedures. The hospital provides a comprehensive paediatric radiology service to all the paediatric subspecialties. The paediatric interventional radiology service works closely with these subspecialties in outpatient clinics, MDTs and theatre procedures., This is a locum, full time consultant post in paediatric interventional radiology. The appointment is a 10 PA post comprising, routinely, 2 long clinical days (3 DCCs each day, 12 hour day). It is divided into 9 PA of direct clinical care and 1 PA of supporting professional activities per week, as outlined in the Specific Clinical Duties section below.

The specific role of the post holder is to work with the existing IR team to further develop all aspects of paediatric IR at GOSH by co-ordinating the needs and demands on this service and maximising the available resources and opportunities to best meet these demands. There is a desire to facilitate and disseminate skills and knowledge in paediatric IR, in particular to further develop our world leading service. The post holder will need to demonstrate excellent team building/working skills to support and motivate the IR team.

It is expected that the post holder will have existing core knowledge of all aspects of general paediatric IR currently undertaken in the department, recognising that there may be a requirement for a period of in-house training in some techniques. The individual is expected to have existing core knowledge of interventional radiology and/or diagnostic paediatric radiology, ideally both.
